Go Chennai Superkings!

I did not write or support any IPL team. (except I mentally wantd Royal Challengers Bangalore to win).
Now it is a fashion to talk about some team.
Hence Go Chennai Superkings!
If they win Hurray! If not he he. :-)

About IPL and the matches

So many of you are writing to me on not writing about the IPL.
Somehow I believed that these matches are staged, and from the first match Brendon McCullum was fed with school-boyish bowling.
Now for Semi finals and Finals the rates are going at 25000 rs onwards for a seat! Obscene.
It was a forced to be a Mumbai affair, all along for obvious reasons, for people who control it, knowingly that we are sitting in the monsoon season!
Well some facts.... all the 8 teams have had a decent run rate. No one is above all. It is the matter of last few balls or overs. Well knit. In fact Deccan Chargers has a healthy run rate at the 6th position. Surpsingly Mumbai Indians has controlled matches well, with a lower run rate against than that they scored.

Blogging Tips

Blogging Tips

Blogging can be a fun way to express your thoughts on anything you want from music to movies. But it's important to remember that information that is on the Internet can be read by anyone - including strangers. Follow these tips to keep yourself safe:

  • Never put your last name or the full names of your friends or family online. Instead, use screen names or nicknames.
  • Don't put your birthdate with your name. It could lead to identity theft.
  • Never list your address, school, workplace or telephone number. It's an invitation for stalkers.
  • Don't put pictures of yourself and your friends and never list who is in the picture. Anyone can use the online photograph to find you.
  • If you have a teenager in the house, talk to them about their Internet usage. Not many teens want their parents to read their blogs, you can help them think of ways to use a blog while protecting their privacy.

Blogging Facts:

  • According to data from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, out of 24 million American teens between ages 12 and 17, 21 million, or 87 percent, use the Internet.
  • Sixty-five percent use instant messaging and 44 percent go online every day. Another 29 percent of teens keep several instant message conversations going on at once, and 25 percent have even "IM'ed" people in the same room.
  • Out of the 21 million teens who do use the Internet, the Pew study found that 57 percent have created their own blog and have posted stories, videos or photography online.

But why?

In the IT industry, idea and technology execution brings money.

What has the product or service got to do, than others have to offer?

I submitted my proposals for a product development, and never got the funding required during 2001.

A cunning friend of mine who had heard about the idea from me over a cup of coffee in 2003, developed a prototype himself, and was able to get some funding and make it a success.

But why?

Retiring at 45, I wish

I always wonder when is the right time to shift gears and change careers.
I have personally made moves to many employers, owing to job satisfaction (10 till date). Obviously they gained from "one mans loss is others gain" theory. Even worked in the USA for around 5+ years, and a long career with a single employer. Now (I am in IT for the last 18 years), is it worth to switch to writing and research? (follow your heart where it takes?). Retire at 45 has been my goal (with passive investments), now I am 40 and 5 more years to go! You dont know whether you have done the right thing, unless you interact with others and understand and learn from their sucess!

Note - anyone with solid planning ideas, drop in a mail

Nostalgia of USA

I had lived in Reading, PA, USA during 95-99 and lots of memories....
I had been part of a local group of a community where I lived in.
Now the sub prime crisis has hit hard, people are selling houses, just like that, at the drop of the hat.
A house a friend of mine - bought for around $400K in 2000 is worth only $135K now. No logic. 3 Br, 2 Bath, with 0.75 acre individual home (trying searching houses for sale in 19606).
Cheaper than India. I think I am better off buying property in USA and retire. You know the local property tax is only 2% and a max of about $4K or so. This amount is completely deductible in the income.
Reading is a lovely and a safe place to live. Some small software co's are also there.

Election Results of Karnataka May 2008 an update

I am watching Karnataka Election news and bewildered how the angry planets work against certain parties.

Now the trend is certain, BJP is the clear majority party, with support of some independents.

Refer to the prediction that I had given on May 23rd, 2008.
http://vijayashankar.blogspot.com/2008/05/karnataka-may-2008-elections-results.html

Wait till 12 Noon, to have a complete picture emerge. The Bellary scene is quite different, as the big money lords are biting the dust (mine dust?).

It is no doubt that statistics and astrology cannot predict to the core of results, as many people are involved.

I think we have to randomly choose a number for each consituency and see the weightage of each party and see the results, which is laborious.

I did for world cup predictions and was wrong for India and right for Pakistan in all matches. Australis emerging as winner was foregone conclusion..... but there elections are different ballgame.

God help us all.

This is a single page MBA!

All you wanted to know about management... in a single page!
Astonishingly most of the major topics have been learnt by me, already....

Is it possible to be an MBA without studying?

Is it possible to be an MBA without studying?

A million dollar question.

Check this http://www.personalmba.com/

If you read and sort of participate in all the discussions, you would have made it. Knowledgewise, YES.

Lots of things you gain in the work life. So MBA is an added advantage. Concentration (Camp?). Based on the NPV of investments, is the ROI worth it. http://www.mba.com/ says yes for most of the colleges (if you get a job). Few of my friends who have done part time MBAs didn't see any value add, after 10 years of experience. (there is a message for me)

Now what about Ross School, MIT Sloan, Wharton, Cornell and Columbia along with Yale and Harvard. They are definitely up there. But for folks you have been brought up, bright in good family environment, etc.... makes sense. Not for people like me, who at young age, looked literally forward for a good meal! from 1982, not even a single day has passed without me working and earning! 1982 was dual mode study, school and work till 1990. The whole family used to work! Never mind the good ole days at Kotagiri with Cloth Shop, Estates etc... and what losses can do to you...Days of Ragi puttu, very rarely idlies ,one time rice etc...Foreign was not new to us, as relatives were there and used to gift us, and we had a taste of it (chocolates etc.). My brother was also planning to go to Kuwait on hosiery work, when IRAQ captured it, so he returned back before even he boarded the flight - a sad story I will have to elaborate upon later. My family used to send me away to Grandparents, always during school vacations, it helped me and them. May be that made me a bit more successful. Education wise both my sisters are having multiple degrees now.

Well I did write GMAT in 1995 end and also ensured, in 96 attended at Reading campus 3 courses without completing finals (names forgotten ... Economics, ...Accounting and Decision....) costing me about $4500 USD @ $475 a credit hour - contact classes 3 days, including weekends. I think it is still the same now from LaSalle Univeristy. Heard that they are trying to recruit students in India. Those courses I took, come back to my memory, when I discuss about NPV, ROI etc with my wife for her MBA exams preparation.

May be my poor decision making of returning back to India (no one can kick me out, rain or shine principle, it's my own country man!) has made me change jobs at the drop of a hat, er... satisfaction. (I have decided it is next five years of work. That's it, then education/relaxing field or some easy biz - retirement) Money has never been the motivation. May Dad used to tell me, money will follow where the talent is. It is happening always and even today. He did see me a multi-millionaire in Rs. before he passed away, which he always wanted, the pride in him stayed on.

I am good in case studies, thanks to Business World, HBR and I think that quality helps along way in my current job too. I have handled enough MBAs from IIMs, UCB etc.. and always proved that I was a better task master.... If I can understand the M&A strategy and concepts, and some understudy assignment in Investment banking, I can pass off better than a proper MBA for sure! I don't have the looks or charm - may be that is the cultivation you get done in these league schools?

Karnataka May 2008 elections results

Karnataka May 2008 elections results

(You heard it first here. Verify on May 26th morning with complete results. I have tried my level best to analyze astrologically).

Congress - Blessed with strong Jupiter on May 16th and 22nd. > 66% chance of victory. May 10th was a Sun victory, means, intelligent voters have been involved - correct - Bangalore has 28 constituencies and the days poll was for 69 seats.
BJP - favourite - Jupiter gave good start on May 10th and brought it down to 2nd level on May 16th and 22nd.  50% chance of victory.
JD(S) - Only on May 10th - some blessing from Saturn, transiting with Jupiter (only leader would win). 33% chance of victory in all.
Others and Independents - Moon survives the Jupiter onslaught - so certain caste dominant areas give their own peculiar results, irrespective of their party allegiance. < 10% overall chace.

Now the seats and numbers, in my humble opinion

Congress - 123+
BJP - 80+
JD(S) & Others - 11+

Note - It is always necessary to analyze the planets positions on the day of the polling and prominent parties along with a desired result for them individually. It cannot be done before poll, as people will have to give their votes, to decide. To check results the event should have happened. That is why you can see most of the astrologers predicting past accurately, while being vague on the future. It is a God given gift to interpret. Else all politicians would be coming to me to decide, who the next CM would be.

Will the Airport Open soon! (they say May 24th, 2008)

Will the Airport Open soon! (they say May 24th, 2008)

Hopefully yes.

But for HAL to be running, God knows what kind of money these politicians will pilfer out of the system!

Long live Bangalore.

If you dont like, then move to Coimbatore (I have to make money on some land there!)

What is Web2.0?

Here is a lift off on Web 2.0 (I am internalizing aka HOWGAL)
Someone wrote "Web 2.0 can do something. We really don't know what it is yet. But this is what I think it is" ha ha.
Reference from O' ReillyPublishing second hand stuff like this that weakly paraphrases what somebody else had attempted to phrase-it devalues other concepts such as 'salary' and 'newspaper-fame'. Let us talk fluff "so what. This is fluff?"
While this may impress 'give me 5 of those' type people and prompt them to do the web 2.0 thing - this could also inflict damage on intelligent readers, who aren't tuned into web 2.0, causing them to form theories that sound something like: "My physics teacher in Tiruppur didn't explain physics very well to me. So physics is all fluff". You got it?
Well if Web 2.0 helps online marketing and selling, I need not have helped my Dad carry (1980s) the heavy bundle of hosiery - manufactured (hard physical labor) and sold without any taxes - zilch - non so whatever - smuggling from Tiruppur to Erode Wholesale market within our own country! It was always nice to hear from Dad that he made Rs 100/- and more as profit, as that would mean we (siblings) can get some nice Cashew Pakoda and Cream buns. We can afford to give coffee (Neskappi) to friends, if they visit.

Shantaram - a wonderful novel by Gregory David Roberts

Facts or Fictions, your Shantaram stands out apart. Hats off Gregory David Roberts!

930+ pages of marvel. Wonderful descriptions.

I bought the novel at Chennai Airport, when I was moving from Chennai to Bangalore, on a new job - last April. Now that I have finished it yesterday (the Afghanistan scenes, seem to be of my memory that I have scene (seen) when I was living in USA 94 to 99), I searched for him on the net and emailing now.
****************************************************

This is what he writes about a novel (beautiful!), on the website http://www.shantaram.com (quoting with permission as he says...(refer end of snip))

What is a novel?

What are the elements that must be found in any piece of writing for it to be considered a novel?

I think it fair to say that traditional definitions of the word "novel" work along these lines:

A novel is a fictitious prose story of book length.

In my view, a novel has six basic elements:

1) It must have a society of characters;

2) They must be undergoing transformations;

3) And those must be in the course of a sustained prose narrative;

4) The sustained prose narrative must be impelled by a plot;

5) And it must be unified by clearly discernible central themes;

6) And to the extent possible, it must be universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata.

If I write those six basic elements into a single definition, I come up with this:

A novel is a society of characters, undergoing transformations, in the course of a sustained prose narrative, which is impelled by a plot, unified by clearly discernible central themes, and universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata.

You won't find that definition in a book, or on anyone else's website (unless they took it from mine, which they're welcome to do).

All about Fitness One & Gyms

Read this article...

I wonder how I was a member of a fitness gym from Nov 95 to April 99, working out 1 to 1.5 hours a given day!
After returning to India, I tried to join Golden Gym at Kumar Park West, Bangalore - who were trying to charge @ Rs 10,000/- per annum.
Well I missed joining the Fitness One at TTK Road, 5 minutes from my home at Gopalapuram, between 2003 & 2007 for want of time, while I was slogging from 8 AM to 9 PM everyday! The Sunday beach walk, was the only thing that kept me sort of OK other than my 5 KMs on my excercycle, which I am religiously following everyday.
But still I gained 8 Kgs in the last one year, since I moved to Bangalore.
Will graduate to weights, when I move into the 40's club.

Bangalore New Airport to Open on May 22nd, 2008

Finally the news is out. Bangalore New Airport to Open on May 22nd, 2008 (Thurs night is the first landing by Kingfisher flight from Mumbai at 8PM and first take off at 12.50AM May 23rd, 2008 AirIndia to Singapore). They timed it so well before the new government comes on board, after vote counting on May 25th, Sunday. Ha Ha!

So HAL Airport is going to be closed. It will cost 1 hour extra each way (forget the new maps that are shown in newspapers, about 4, on the reach points form City to Airport - all takes 4 hours early start before the flight).

Now to catch a flight I take a taxi 2 hours before. From May 22nd 2008 it would be 3 hours before, easily from Bannerghatta Road. Plus the 675 Rs UDF (user development fee) he he develops the BIAL builders! International passengers would cough $ 20 equivalent. (somewhere approx.)

I would rather take the Shatabdi or the train. If I have work in the day, I will take the night train and get some rest. The total travel time to Chennai is 5 to 6 hours, and to catch the train all I need is 1 hour drive.

I bet allowing HAL with short hauls of 1 hour or less would have benefitted passengers (Within South 4 states), airport workers and cargo handlers. Also the really early morning departure (to Delhi/Mumbai) and late night arrival flights etc can be allowed. All they would have needed is to pay out 30% of the Rs 225/- getting collected per passenger or about Rs 75/-. Still workable, if Mallya thinks. I challenge them to give me the control of BIAL and Bangalore Airspace for 3 years and I promise to recover the invested cost.

I am told the Cargo lobby succeeded and they would continue using the HAL airport. Great! Even chartered flights, do not get covered under the BIAL compulsion.

So I pray to all to improve the road conditions, and get a smooth ride to Airport from Any part of City. Elevated expressways are the best helps people and politicians as well. All are happy!

Do you know that KSIDC and govt, who have given 1400 crores out of 2100 crores project, that is whopping 66% of loan, were willing to waive half the interest (7.5% rate) till the HAL runs.

But R K Misra the ROI Lead India winner would not be happy!

H1B visa, what USA can do now?

Now that H1B visa are getting over fast in first few days, what USA can do now?
Lottery is not the answer. Equal division among empoyers should be there.
The back pending visas that was not used or exhausted from previous years, since H1B was introduced should be given now.
People who have stayed in USA for more than 5 years on non immigrant work visa, can be given a work permit for another 5 to 10 years, on a renewable basis, with non immigrant status.
Immigrant numbers for India can be increased.
With dollar hovering around 40 Rs/$, lur eto USA is not that great nowadays.

Movie Review - Jumper

Jumper is a movie about teleporting at wish! Didnt we dream about it in young age?

The hero is a Jumper, who learns about being one, when he sincerely believes he can escape from death, and he appears in the school library.

Sensing his power, he becomes a bank thief. Some nice scenes on stealing in the vault. Unimaginable. But I wonder how the security cameras didnt pick up the images, or ther eis no sensor based activation of alarms.

Samuel L Jackson comes as a jumper hunter.

This is an offtake of the small people movie (neighbours?)

The movie is shot in exotic locations, Arctic, Canda, Egypt, Australia, Prague, Italy etc. Wonderful!

And there is one heroine, who is used for the flesh scenes and no act.

Review of movie TRADE

Oscar nominated movie TRADE (with a pedophile concept).

Here they show the Russian (why?) involved in Globalisation of trade of young kids getting trafficked by wicked pedophiles.

The Hero from Mexico City is working at odd jobs (tourist guide - thief) to make a living - staying with family with no father. He gifts a bike one day to his lovely young sister aged 13. She likes it so much, she wants to take it for a ride  (also wants to give brother a card AMOR). On the way the mafiaso kdnaps her. Here the director shows how the people traffic is made across the water border between Mexico and USA.

The lure or Glamour, Money and free life is shown immaculately.

The corrupt officials in Mexico and USA (too?) are shown in bad light.

There is one good person is police force of USA, who goes around finding trafficked kids and return them back

Intelligent climax on the Online Auction of kids Online. 2 secs before the timeout, the bid is placed for a sure win. Moments of brilliance. The girl is rescued and the brother takes her to home. No no the story doesnt end here. The is one superclimax. The brother kills the mafia don Russian, and while he is lying on the road dead, his small kid  walks by and calls "Papa". Poetic justice.

Also the movie begins with Glamour minded tourists  (Poland?)  who are intended immigrants to USA via Mexico going to USA with wrong thugs and getting killed.

The main concept of kidnap minus the moving away from USA type things, is made as Tamil movie Anjade.

Talking about H4 visa wifes saga in USA (also Spouse)

Some one wrote somewhere that H4 wifes have a tough time in USA, but I beg to differ.
Note that I am not a male chauvinist, and this applies to Spouse as in the Title. (Males on H4 visa). I have also quoted my wife, with her permission.
I have spoken about this in my communication skills course talk at PSG Tech, Coimbatore (eventually I topped that subject too!). Based on the talk there are few males and many females unmarried (sic!).
Substitute, he or she as you please. Not being a male chauvinist here. Narrow minded idiots would think otherwise. If abuses are hurled, I would collect severe punitive damages, including the entire networth and make those guys go on road, literally. IT information act protects, the Indian constitution and does not protect abuses.
She wanted American life, that was the reason she bought (literally in South Indian context, gold, katnam, dowry) . What is the heck about not working? She very well knows (or just by googling) you can find about how the H4 visa holder can or cannot survive in USA. The lure of Green Card to USA eventually the citizanship, pride among family members, and the famous American Life, richness etc, dreams to become true!

I was on H1 and my wife too came along.

Here are some of the things to do (lots). I will keep updating....

Learn the American Accent. Worth every cent of it for a BPO job, just-in case.

Learn driving in the USA roads. Get comfortable.

Volunteering for local cause ASHA, CRY, Indian associations, Tamil Telugu classes etc.

First of all she learnt cooking! (in India she was pampered at home) She learnt the American way to cook. Do you know that the ketchup packet an dthe pepper salt small pack at MacDonalds is alone enough for a decent Rasam, with a little parsely leaves/coriander?

She took some Computer courses from local college.

Learnt Spanish. Got some Spanish/Mexicans friends and fun with that. It helps in future biz.

She did lots of learning and programming and helped in developing something at home (which is not illegal) which was the seed for the venture we tried to find in India. (intelligent wife)

I am not trying to convince the USA authorities to allow H4 visa holders to work like L2 as we know very well they read and store each and every correspondence that matters for USA. Something is in the offing for that to be allowed.

Obviously, unless the husband wants to come back to India, she can scale up her skills (SAP training in the elearning mode) and earn tons of USDs.

You can help the daily household chores completed and make sure husband concentrates on work alone. Paying bills, grocery urgent shopping etc.

Keep the tax books, on savings investments tab everyday. Stock market investing in USA doesnt need a visa.

Plan for the future kids and get ready for it. Mentally and physically.

A friends wife learnt Adobe Illustrator at home, and came up with a product idea, and once my friend got his GC, floated that idea and got some venture and today he is a multi-millionaire.

And you can do lots of excercises, keep yourself hip. Eat frog legs, mussels, kim chew etc.

For unintelligent wifes who cannot do above, put on lots of weight - eat lots of chips and be happy, drinking lotsa coke. (I would say all of the H4 wives are very intelligent on taking the bold step to get H4 visa itself).

Man being a housewife equals 6 jobs. Worth the salary the guy gets. With recession looming - you can ensure the husband gets knowledge of keeping the job alive. Worth it!

Also you need someone around to take care of parents and in-laws visiting for 6 months (small time) every year alternating. And it takes a month just to pack things for them to go back to India with the dollar shop gifts, purchased - weekend over weekend on sales. So you are blocking 6 to 7 months of your yearly calendar.

Assembly Elections Karnataka 2008 (an update on Phase I)

I did not vote this time as I was refused to register, as branded from being a domiciled person of TN. Let my Voter Id card remaining a de-facto, non available thing. Did not enlist at all. No bother. Enjoy Tamasha. May be since I have land in Anekal, I would get a voters card there?

Pleasant weather. 50% turnout in City and 60% overall.

Walked around a bit in the neighboring area in Bangalore South and could see reasonable turnout. Danger in the stomach. I dont know when Democarcy will be celebrated as the developed countries over here.

I think voters were very sincere. No bias shown, except the slip issuers and booth owners. Minidors were plying people and no EC observer was bothered I think.

I could see 2 candidates of major parties within half hour going from booth to booth (very sincere to give service to people, and both of them live very close to my area and might remember me, and recognize if one wins!), the third main party one obviously know is Bangalore City they have no chance, visibility is very poor.

One of the candidates asked me whether I had voted, I said I did not get registered. He bad mouthed the authorities and moved on.

Long live democracy!

Assembly Elections Karnataka 2008

I am non political here.

All the eligble voters have to go and vote.

May 10, 16 and 22 are voting days in 3 parts. Results on 25th May.

Based on KP Hororary analysis, by 9.23 AM on 25th May, the trend would be clear.

Mars clearly indicates there is in-fight, negligence to form govt. Once again coalition?

By 26th morning 6.35 AM all will be clear, including the leadership. The ruler would be an old one. (Krishna, HDK or Yeddi?)

Recruiting Top Management

Businessweek has a nice refresher on recruiting top management. While it primarily seems to be written for large companies, the lessons are equally relevant to startups. Of course, there are some additional points one needs to keep in mind when recruiting for startups:

  • Sell a personal vision - not just of where the company wants to be, but also why the prospective candidate should get involved. Money? Significance? Career advancement? Broad-skilling?
  • Build credibility - let others speak for you. Customers? Investors? Advisors?
  • Prepare well - have a detailed view on why you need this person - is he going to feel overqualified once he comes in?
  • Hire the best - this is a motherhood statement, but one which cant be emphasized enough, especially for startups.

Any others that have been useful in your experience? I have benefited from it, and would like to join someone who does this.

Most of the points are valid. Being an entrepruener myself, I have tried and tired of startups and funds, and more dearth of them, the cost implication would be a matter of concern.
It is alright to recruit someone with a high challenging appetite, who might also want some big dough! But he should sort of do some additional job, that you may not
Say you are hriing a CTO with 15 years experience, he or she should not only do the PM role, also the QM role as well and do a bit of AM with the clients, saving the cost involved.
So if you pay less, the guy gets dejected, lulls, switches the job. Period. You startup remains as "one". Pay the cost and get the best!
These are just experiences that I have personally gone thru. Feedbacks?

MTR near Lalbagh is getting lousy

Recently went to MTR with family. First of all there is no parking. Where should you park the car? The management should have a valet parking service for a cost!
I parked it on JC Road lot, walked by the back gate, rached Urvasi and turned right to MTR - about 15 minutes for a lousy service at MTR.
First of all, they charged half (more?) for my kids, who didnt eat anything other than 2 pooris.
The waiters are smelly and unkempt. Luckily the food tasted good, but my wife cribbed, "again!". SHe them to the core, tastes worst than the home food. We go to hotels to have different tasty food isnt it? (of course forget the quantitiy you binge on outside, than home).

It was 3 PM, and we were in the last pandhi and got out and found that we have to exit by the back door, through the smelly kitchen. Wogh! No more visits to MTR after seeing rats and cockroaches running around there, if still you want the food of Mangalore - Mavalli.

Tech Savvy Cheaters in Astrology Business

Recently I was brought a notice from a close friend of mine, from Bangalore, who learns Astrology with me. Pardon me, if I am hurting in anyway - the genuine astro helpers.

Tech savvy guys get on to groups, then learn some basics of astrology and try answering some questions.

Then once they get the hang of things, they post some answers, while the query is posted by themselves with a different email id. Then there is correct prediction of event message posted on the group with the fake id.

One more trick these fraudsters use is, go to astro.com and get the free horoscope with the birth details provided and get the basic reading - which is almost on the perfect sense to make out the answer for the query.

Now other gullible troubled people (humans are always stressed one way or another.) fall for this and send out a personal note asking for help. Then these guys, ask for donation and try to make some money out of it. Some even have websites and say that dont want to charge, but charge and ripoff. Certain guys would not know that - it takes a lot of effort and very strong study to make something out of the query. (Always I see these websites post the costs of query and free stuff to download etc.). Their answers are so vague and tough to interpret. Yes and No. Who wants that. Is there a way to correctly predict the movement of a job/transfer for a person or the cause of illness of the person. Can they explain why they are trying to chose Sun aspecting 4th and 8th house for fathers Cancer, while 9th house is neglected?

The KP System predictions have been very good and scientific. (even though still it falls in earth's eye and Sun going around it as Prasara says - giving benefits). The beauty is it is very simple to learn, and I am telling from my experience of 19 years in KP system.

Beware, you cannot predict without the divine help and belief. Even if you approach scientifically, it might give the probability approach. But as Shri Krishnamurthiji says, unless you are blessed, you cannot read into things without the blessings and ruling planets.

I can tell you from personal experience that, I get totally drained out, after I do a Hororary analysis. That is the spiritual power.

I take life as it comes, and try to see the pits and try to cushion the effects of the fall one step at a time.

User car export?

I never thought it could be so easy to get an used car shipped from USA to India.

Check this site http://www.exporttrader.com

Well, first things first - you need to convert the driving side from left to right, thats it! And the dashboard items also move along.

I am told by a friend that his 1996 Accord shipment cost him 3500$ or so other than the cost his vehicle and conversion. Very cheap compared to what it costs to import a brand new car. But beware, you need to ensure that the emission standards and road worthiness certificates are got.

But last and not the least, you should always ensure that the current petrol gets the best of the car. (unleaded).

Best diet for a day to loose weight and stay trim

I got this one from my close friend. Surefire way to loose some decent weight. Dont crib that this is strvation diet :-). There are people in some parts of the world who dont have food to eat!

Running is the best all over fat burner. If you do not like running, have breathing problems or cannot run, you can walk at an incline. For example if you walk on a treadmill at 4 mph at 10 incline for 45 minutes, you have burned 500 calories. Eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and protiens. Try to cut back on sugar or not eat anything full of sugar such as candy, cookies, etc but natural sugars (found in fruit) are fine. Here is a meal plan that will help you lose weight fast and not be too hard to follow:

BREAKFAST
1/2 grapefruit
2 egg whites
slice of whole wheat toast

LUNCH
pear
banana
Fiber One bar
salad with little dressing
celery with peanut butter

DINNER
breaded and baked fish (any kind you like) or chicken
peas or any kind of vegetable
brown rice

SNACKS
cottage cheese
fruit
vegetables
protien shake (one scoop protien powder, nonfat milk, frozen fruit)

Also make sure you drink enough water. Drink one glass on nonfat skim milk a day or have it in a shake and then drink NOTHING but water. Take your weight and divide it by 2. The convert pounds to ounces. For example, if you weighed 150 lbs then divide by 2 = 75 lbs then convert to ounces - 75 ounces of water a day. Make sure to drink that much water every day.

Shani (Sani) Dasa and its effects

Well for anybody, Shani (Sani) Dasa and its effects are good and bad. Look at my previous postings.

It runs for 19 years in a 120 years cycle. Maha Dasa. (starting from Moon - Vim)

Bhukthi is the total period of a planet in the MahaDasa - here it is 19/ (Dasa Period) for Sani / Shani about 19/120 of the time of Shani in your Bhukthi period. 798 days.

Anthra is the subdivision of the above and once again using the same principle as above, it works to 798 * 19/120 = 126 days, where super things happen in a person life.

So for a given Dasa and Bhuthkti and Anthra, the first period is itself. Lots of changes happen then based on the transit of the planet itself in various houses. Note that Sun and Moon period, always good results only in a given house - 12 you have. Venus gives a total changeover. Hmm.. Kethu and Rahu, are unpredictable. But it follows the pattern what its own predecessor does.

Here is the list with 120 as the period & percent of time ( Dasa/Bhukthi/Anthra ). Sort of the revolution time, around sun (but Parashara thought of keeping Earth Centric - thats why you dont see Earth in the 12!).

1  Sa 19 15.83%
2  Me 17 14.17%
3  Ke 7 5.83%
4  Ve 20 16.67%
5  Su 6 5.00%
6  Mo 10 8.33%
7  Ma 7 5.83%
8  Ra 18 15.00%
9  Ju 16 13.33%

All the software using Swiss based Ephimeris DLL, take the starting point of the DOB and give you the chart for 120 years - assuming the max years a person can live is 120 only!

ISRO launch perfect

Excellent ISRO Launch today.

Ontime launch @ 9.20 AM, and moved into orbit loop now (control center has taken over), and yes all these 8 study satellites are to ward off evil to India. The main satellite is for Cartography to use for GIS apps and the other one is for communication purpose.

Maanada Mayilada (Exchange round - April 27th, 2008)

Pathetic. Judges comments were poor. The way Kala master was staring made my daughter say, why is this lady looking "Yucky"? My wife says sarees that are worn are good!

Vulgar to be precise. This program can be doen even better without those kuthu songs.

Someone (Suresh?) was telling it is better than being in a movie to dance for 26 weeks. May be get got paid more in TV (26 x Rs 10,000 = Rs 2.6 lakhs) than in movies. Just kidding. No offense.

All the ladies were givin manly looks and gaze.

The very best was Ganeshkar and Arthi (and that Vijayakanth song was super). Hats off!

Koffee with Anu (Dhanush - April 26th, 2008)

Seems to be bit better from earlier shows. Anu is improving.

Dhanush was very calm, can't believe it!

Famous son-in-law. Composed at this young age. He was never clear on why and how he ended up marrying his wife. (arranged or love?)

I think they edited his version of his father-in-law Rajinikanth and politics.

Nevertheless, a better coverage.

Raghava Lawrence Trust

Many of you are posting comments and writing to me on Raghava Lawrence Trust. He is definitely doing a very good job.

Successful career

What do you mean my Successful career?

Is it earning lots of money without any stress? Family being happy?

Or living far away from own family and culture and fake admonitions?

Is it living abroad alone to give the sense of pride?

To many questions and very limited answers.

At least for me, it is not just money alone, but a sense of satisfaction of the job, that I would love to continuosly perform, without making much of a hype.

KP System Predictions

Inaccurate or uncertain birth times, misrecorded or unavailable or forgotten birth-dates (in countries where birth certificates are not issued or required; also in the case of very old people or in the case of celebrity horoscopes) and situations where a birth time is hard to decide upon (lost objects etc), need not make us throw up our hands in despair. In situations like these, we can use horary charts. These charts are generally drawn for themoment when a question is asked and the chart then is utilized for studying and analyzing the specific situation or event that forms the basis of the question. Various options and methods for casting and delineating horary charts exist in the various flavors of astrology that are available around the globe.

Parashari, one of the systems of astrology practiced in India, attributed to the Aryans and their descendents, is somewhat similar to classical western astrology in the symbology and building blocks used, with some differences as well, such as the use of the sidereal zodiac divided into 12 signs and 27 asterismal divisions or lunar mansions. The vedic system is heavily lunar in its orientation. It supports unique systems of lunar progression and transits, for timing of events, and techniques for measuring strengths of planets etc. The system relies heavily on planetary associations and combinations known as yogas. The rising degree represents the house-mid and the three popular house systems used are entire sign as house, equal house division and Sripati's system which is identical to the quadrant-trisecting method after Porphyrii. It recommends using a chart drawn for the moment when the querist (client) approaches and poses the question to the astrologer or when the question is received by the latter. The moment of formation of the question in the querist's mind is similar to conception, whereas, its physical manifestation in the form of a spoken or written question is akin to the "moment of birth"!

By that token, the time at which the astrologer reads a horary query in email or message would probably be a better epoch for drawing the horary chart, rather than the time of posting of the message/email. Some might argue that the time when the query was posted was the moment when the person was thinking intently about the issues involved and perhaps a chart drawn for that moment might better reflect the outcome of the query. If classical wisdom can be relied upon, the recommendations are clear. The moment of transfer of the information to the astrologer is the key epoch. One way to test this would be through what is known as "mooka prushna" or "unverbalized questions"! The client lets the astrologer know that there is a question and the astrologer figures out what it is about! A very interesting and 'stress- provoking' exercise! Two charts can then be drawn for each query, one for the time of posting of the "unposed" question (querist's coordinates) and the other one for the time and place when the email was read and analysed by the astrologer. Repeating the exercise for say a dozen times or more would hopefully give an estimate of which epoch works better. Have a ball doing that folks!

Horary astrology was given a major boost some decades ago by an Indian astrologer named Krishnamurthi who devised a unique system based on the use of several interesting indicators such as planets ruling the weekday, the asterism that the moon is in at the time of asking of the question and the ascendant rising at that instant. The system was claimed as capable of providing highly accurate readings and Krishnamurthi acknowledged having received the 'method' in the form of a divine inspiration. He decided to use the placidian house divisions with these sidereal charts, a major divergence from classical vedic astrology; moreover, he placed the rising degree at the beginning of a house and not in the middle as practiced by other jyotishis. His 'system' also had an interesting twist. Since the zodiac can be divided into 249 divisions, each ruled by a sign-lord (one per 30 deg), star-lord (one per 13 deg 20 min) and a star-sublord (variable dimensions, 40 min to 2 deg 13 min 20 sec), he often asked clients to provide a number between 1 and 249 which he used as the ascendant in a chart drawn for the moment of the querry (planetary longitudes were calculated for the moment). A client providing a number that was outside this range was told that the venture would not be a success!

Through KP, as the method was called (Krishnamurthi's Paddhati or Procedure), Krishnamurthi revealed and revived a very important fundamental concept on the indian astrological scene, that of the role of asterisms in chart analysis and particularly by refining the use and improving the usefulness of the vimshottary dasha system of timing. He must be commended for that.

The system is essentially not very different from that used for delineating any other chart as per vedic parlance. The chart is drawn by using either the numerical representative for the ascendant, or for the epoch of the querry. The planets in both cases are calculated for the moment of making the querry. The significant planets are the planet ruling over the weekday, the lords of the signs, stars and subs of the rising degree (ascendant) and the moon. The ascendant is taken to represent the client while the seventh house represents the astrologer. When the astrologer also happens to be the querist, it is interesting that at times this is indicated in the chart itself in terms of 'connectivities' between the two houses! Next, the house/houses pertaining to the question are examined and these are checked to see if they tally with the significant planets. The success or failure of the undertaking then would be indicated by the mutual agreement or disagreement between the planets. Things such as friendship (or lack thereof) between the planets concerned, their association with each other by aspect, any beneficial combinations (yogas) between relevant planets and the strength of the planets are considered. An examination of the vimshottary dasha is then made and this is used, in addtion to transits of the significant planets and stars for estimating the timing. Situations where the indicators are fewer and clear, the outcome can be expected to be better predictable. If too many conflicting influences exist, there is usually reason to believe that the issue is riddled with problems. In his writings, Krishnamurthi gave numerous examples of things such as long-distance phone calls. This might amuse the western reader who is used to dialing a number and expecting to get through right away. In India of years ago, before direct dialing became available, one had to place a call and then wait and wait and wait, often at the post- office because most people did not have personal phones. It was a big deal and Krishnamurthi used it to test his system! Perhaps we can do the same with our snail-mail here!

Krishnamurthi gave a list of houses that are involved in determining and examining diffferent areas/issues in life. I am presenting a tiny sampling here:

Health issues - 1, 6, 8
Income - 2, 11, 10
Children - 5
Love affairs - 5, 7
Spirituality - 9, 12
Expenditure - 12
Litigations/Insurance matters - 8, 12
Siblings - 3, 11
Home, Property etc. - 4, 8
Education - 5, 9
Communication, Letters etc - 3, 11
Business/Interview - 7
Service/Working for others - 6
Fame/Profession - 10
Spouse - 7
Family, Wealth - 2
Pets/Animals - 5, venus
Mystery/Intrigue - 8, nodes of moon

Once an indicator is decided upon, its situation in the horary horoscope is examined and basing on the postions and the mutual relationship between the star and sublords, success or failure is assessed. Generally, if the sublord is in an angle or trine from the houses ruled by the starlord, success is indicated, whereas, if the sublord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th from the house under examination, then delays, obstacles and failure result. Sometimes, the nature of the involved signs and planets gives a clue about the speed with which the issue would progress to a culmination. Fixed signs, earthy influences, retrograde planets and planets such as jupiter and saturn generally indicate delays, sun, venus, mars, moon and mercury represent speedy progress. The nodes (rahu and ketu) add unpredictability and suddenness, and result in uneven progress in the matters at hand.

When the question is posed, it is recommended that there should not be any distraction and the querist should meditate on the question for a while, examining all known aspects of it before placing the question. Clarity and seriousness of intent is probably rewarded with similar answers. The reasoning behind this is remarkably similar to that applicable for other kinds of divinatory procedures. The seriousness of the querist must first be examined in order to determine if the chart would hold well and represent the process adequately or not. Common sense dictates that if the two houses (1 and 7) are strong and well connected, then the communication could prove to be fruitful. A similar postiive connection between the first house (querist) and the house representing the matter under query are strongly connected then the question was sincere and has a better chance of being analyzed positively. This is important, because even if the query is about an important matter, the querist may not trust sufficiently in astrology or the astrologer and this would be reflected in the chart and could lead to a 'noisy' imprecise reading.

My life In Bangalore!

Garden City Bangalore AKA Bengalooru/Bengaluru...

Elloriya Namaskaragalu!

I visited Bangalore during my childhood days of 1970's when my grandma was here. Osalli Road. Padarayanpura, closer to Vijaya Nagar. (She had bought a ground of land for Rs 40,000 then, with silk maggas & house) and during 1990 she sold it for Rs 4 Lakhs. Today I am told the price is about Rs 40 Lakhs. Too much! 10 times in 18 year! Thanks to IT Boom!

Real estate prices are very silly in Bangalore.

Just go across to Hosur side, Thalli Side, Denkani Kottai side, you get at half the price. In fact Thalli is having an operational airbase. Cargo airport is due to come there.

I frequented visitign Bangalore bcoz of its Garens and and nice cool life.

When I got my job in 1990, I wished to be posted here, but got Secunderabad. But frequented regularly.

After I returned back from USA in 1999, I wanted to settle in Bangalore. Hmm.. did not happen as I wished. Movements in 2001 and 2003. For good or bad. Now back in Bengaluru!

I will write more...

Managing Software Development is not a joke!

Recently I had an interesting conversation with a known person.
He said that the software guys are cool guys, learn something and get work done.
I had to explain him that Managing Software Development is not a joke!
We cannot delivery with dud resources.
Expecting too much from anybody is pitfall for failure.
Now that the industry is looking at no hikes and tough deadlines, guys really have to work (harder).
