தசாவதாரம் Dasavathaaram a review (திரியாவதாரம்)

தசாவதாரம். Wasted 4 hours with family. Lunch cost. Sweets. Popcorn. Rs 80/- per ticket in an OK theatre. Dent on the car. ஃப்ரீயா கிடைச்சது தலைவலி மட்டும்தான்.

I didnt pay and spend for to see that old man all along in 77.23% of time of 2.45 hours.

The rest taken over by the sundries. Mallika Sherawat beats Namitha in thigh size.

Graphics OK. Thundering background Score. I wish Devi Sri Prasad an award. I want to send him Rs 80/- as a token gift. Please get his address and mail me.

I am not a Brahmin but understand that Pooja biz as மி கன்னடா speaking community (Devanga) is allowed to do Puja's before, MK ordered all can do.

What is the fun of Shaiva and Vaishanava? Thenkalai and Vadakalai? They have different organs and blood? Funnily my community has 64 sects, and half are Shaivites and half Vaishnavites. I am an X married an Y. My FIL has a seal, and ties a linga in his arunakairu. I dont even wear one, to keep my body clean (thread smells man!).

So திரியாவதாரம் (only 3 chars are OK) total flop. He he like Shivaji, I have seen Dasavatharam தசாவதாரம் on second day!

India is expected to loose in a final again! Jinx.

Pakistan is making merry 315/3 in 50 overs.

Younis Khan hits form. Shane Warne sidelined him like anything.

Obama should win to save Iran and eventually America & Oil

NYTimes is pulling him to use the race card. With only 12% of African descent Americans there, it would backfire. I wish McCain loses to save Iran and oil and eventually USA with a stronger dollar and good oil price.

Content is King for Internet Marketing

Content is King for Internet Marketing - and which I'd like to reinforce and expand upon.

I know you are interested in more than mere "theory" but from the brief question details, I do think what you are looking for is an effective search marketing and optimization strategy.

In particular, search engine optimization (SEO) is fundamental to getting your site exposed to a *qualified* audience - that is, people who are actively searching for your content / product / service but simply haven't found you yet (instead, they find your competitors).

So in really basic terms, SEO involves:
1. Identify your target audience
2. Understand how they search for your service or product
3. Produce interesting and useful content (relevant to your particular product / service) that will attract that audience.
4. Make sure your site doesn't get in the way of your content being found (both by your audience and the search engines they use)

As with all things dealing with your business identity online, I'd suggest considering hiring a professional if you want your website to convey a professional image. But indeed there are MANY practical steps you can take more or less on your own (i.e. "in a manner financially available to most folks") *if* you have the time to dedicate to the effort.

A pair of books come to mind which are linked below:

1. "Search Engine Marketing, Inc." - a comprehensive guide with actionable advice on how to implement a search marketing campaign. Definitely geared more towards the enterprise-level campaign, but this is really the definitive source on search marketing.

2. "Building Findable Websites: Web Standards SEO and Beyond" by Aarron Walter. - practical hands-on advice on increasing your sites "findability" from a more technical stand-point.

As for websites, there are literally thousands of sites out there offering SEO/SEM advice and honestly I think most of them are just spam for some SEO agency. One resource I feel confident referring you to however is SEOMoz.com.

Best of luck! Better you be lucky!

Welcome to Making Money on MySpace!

Welcome to Making Money on MySpace!

Contained in this article are the most up to date and powerful ways for you to generate
quick cash (and lots of it) using nothing but MySpace or some stupid social site.
These techniques do not take a lot of time, they require zero start up money, and they can be implemented
immediately Included in the strategies are ideas that you can put to use
RIGHT NOW This information is an overview of many different strategies that
you can immediately start using to make a lot of money on MySpace, but it is
imperative that you use your own creativity to customize each idea
MySpace is constantly changing, and that is the very reason why there has never been a
better time to get into the game Does that sound contrary to popular thought? The
truth is that MySpace marketing used to be dominated by unethical practices such as
spamming profiles and stealing profile identifies Those who did this were taking the
easy way out, and while some made money, they have been weeded out thanks to the
changes that MySpace has recently made Thankfully, MySpace has cracked down on
these practices and eliminated many of those that were engaged in this type of activity
Therefore, the people who took the unethical approach have eliminated themselves
from the MySpace marketing arena, leaving more money on the table for people like
you and I As a result of their carelessness, they have opened the doors for you and I to
explore new opportunities to make more money than ever.

MySpace marketing is not going away In fact, making money is the sole reason that
MySpace exists No, the purpose of MySpace is not to be a "place for friends" The
reason that MySpace exists is for others to join a community where bands, celebrities,
actors, supermodels, and singers can promote themselves How many times have you
seen an unknown band find success just because of their exposure on MySpace? It
happens all the time Therefore, the purpose of MySpace is to gain exposure and to
network with others.
Unfortunately, the spammers of the past have given a bad name to making money on
MySpace Lucky for you and I, this practice has been lessened, and those who will truly
benefit are those who will use the strategies outlined in this book
There is a fine line between the acceptable MySpace marketing and unethical,
misleading tactics that some use Some of the strategies are viewed as underhanded (or
"blackhat") tactics that break MySpace's terms of service However, it is only those who
have abused MySpace marketing in the past that have created the negative light that
surrounds these ideas The techniques that you will learn in this guide are not unethical
in nature; it is only when they are abused that they become frowned upon
For example, bands have been using a few of these strategies for a long time to build
long lists of friends and gain lots of exposure The difference lies in the fact that
MySpace users want what the bands are promoting; on the other hand, no MySpace
user wants spam from an unethical marketer Therefore, be sure to recognize the fine
line that exists on MySpace marketing, and remember that crossing it can ultimately
hinder your profits and get your profiles deleted
If you follow the strategies outlined in , there is truly no limit to the
potential that is in making money on MySpace It is important, however, that you get
creative with your plan of attack and you stay updated with the latest changes on
MySpace Therefore, read this book, read it again, make your own 'twists' to the
strategies, join the newsletter, and check the ' members area
for the latest and greatest in the world of MySpace marketing
Some people easily give up in the MySpace game because of the changes that occur,
and that is good news for those who are committed Those who truly make the most
money on the internet are those that learn to adapt If you think creatively and put the
strategies to work, you will be successful
We were marketing on MySpace from the beginning Before there we bots, we were
doing everything by hand We know the ins and outs, and we have the latest
information on MySpace It is very important that you stay on top of the latest changes
If you do not, you can potentially miss out on a lot of money, and we are sure that you
do not want to do that
This book teaches the right way to do things Follow the steps in detail (while still
adding your own ideas and twists to each) Those who quit are those who try to cut
corners and get off easy Making money on MySpace is very easy, but it is also easy to
get lazy and do things incorrectly However, you are not going to be one of those
people, because you are going to put the practices outlined in this book to good use
and make a lot of money. All at your risk to read further.

Why Is MySpace So Special?
The answer to this question is easy: MySpace is special because it does the almost all of
the work for you
As of Early 2007, MySpace had over 200,000,000 accounts created It is estimated that
there are 80 million unique users That is a lot of people! Voila! and they are all in
one place In addition, MySpace does all of the targeting for you
MySpace has thousands and thousands of groups that contain people of every interest,
shape, age, and size clumped together You want to find five thousand people who are
left handed? There's a group for that You want to find one thousand people who like
the LA Lakers? There's a group for that (You see a trend here?)
Aside from groups, people on MySpace can be found using dozens of different search
options for you to use when searching for people to market to If you want to find
people who are overweight, you can do so by browsing for people according to this
characteristic.
Here are a few of the options that MySpace users can search for using the 'browse'
feature: sex, age, single, relationship, married, divorced, swinger, here for dating, here for
relationships, here for friends, here for networking, ethnicity [with 9 options], body
type [6 options], height, smoker, drinker, occupation, orientation, education, religion,
income, children, and many more...
How much easier does it get to target people than that? No matter what you are
marketing, no matter what type of people you are targeting, you can find people who
are interested IMMEDIATELY on MySpace with a few clicks You don't have to worry
about targeting people because the work is already done for you on MySpace People
who sell would do anything this targeting power at their fingertips We have it on the
internet in the form of this social network.
In addition to the ease of targeting others, potential customers will often target YOU A
perfect example of this would be a band A band will create a page that explains who
they are, where they are from, and what type of music they have Pictures of their
concerts are uploaded, and they include some audio clips from their best songs.

A MySpace user surfing the site and stumbles upon the band's website They may have
found it from a friend, from browsing, from a group, or from the "featured artists"
section They listen to the music and like what they hear Therefore, what do they do?
They send a friend request.

In the sales world, it is called a 'lead' And they found the band How? They requested
to be a friend because they are interested in what the band has to offer The band didn't
do any targeting; instead, an interested listener found them and added them as a
friend. So they were interested in what the band had to offer, they
added them as a friend From now on, the band can send them messages, comments,
bulletins, or whatever to announce their new CD, their upcoming concert dates, their
latest and greatest Ticket sale, or just update them with news to keep their interest
On MySpace, if you have something that people want, it will spread quicker than
anywhere in the world This is because things spread virally If one adds another to
their list of friends, others will see that a new friend has been added Others will check
it out, add it to their list of friends, and the chain begins In the same way, one can
comment a profile with a link to their website, and everyone who views that profile
will see the link They may even add the sender to their list of friends, receive a link to
the website on their profile, and it spreads like wildfire.

MySpace consists of millions and millions of people, and every interest group that
exists is represented on the site One can quickly and easily sift through the many
profiles to find users with specific qualities and/or interests In addition, existing users
will find areas of interest and add them to their profiles Therefore, MySpace users of
all shapes, types, and sizes can both be found and will find things that they are
interested in By utilizing both of these ideas, one can easily create a list of individuals
that are interested in any given topic.
In the coming chapters, we will be learning how to use absolutely any area of interest
to make money It is easy to take any list of people with a common interest and have
them begging for pay us for whatever it is that we have to sell them

A Quick Review on Internet Marketing

A Quick Review on Internet Marketing

The following is a quick review for any of you who have no experience with internet
marketing.
If you are an intermediate internet marketer or even more advanced, you may skip this
section However, either way, you may pick up a thing or two that you didn't know
before.
The primary way that people make money on the internet is through affiliate
marketing This, in a nutshell, is selling someone else's product and receiving a
commission There are products for absolutely every area of interest for which you can
become and affiliate There are literally hundreds of thousands of affiliate products that
can be promoted and profited from.
Basically, you, the "affiliate" for a given product, promote it via a website, an internet
article, emails, or whatever works for you When promoting the product, you are given
a unique link that tracks whoever makes the sale The goal is to send people to your
affiliate link, have them purchase the product, and you, as a result, make huge
commissions How much of a commission, you ask? The answer to that varies, but it
usually ranges anywhere from 25-75% of the sale price
For example, when you get started, you will most likely become an affiliate of me
, because you will want to share what you learn with other people In
addition, it is the single best selling book on MySpace marketing on the internet, and
huge 65% payouts are given to you for each sale When you sign up as a
affiliate, you will be given a unique affiliate link That is your link that you will be
giving to people to get credit for the sales that you generate
When someone clicks on your affiliate link, it directs them to the
homepage and sets a cookie on their computer that you sent them to our
page If they decide to buy , the cookie records you as the affiliate that
made the sale, and you receive a commission This process can be done for any affiliate
products for any group of people or area of interest
This process became extremely popular when products such as Beating Adwords
showed how individuals could place ads on Google that would direct people to their
affiliate links When this idea was released to the public, people immediately made
hundreds and hundreds of autopilot dollars over and over again
The process was expanded when books like The Rich Jerk explained how people could
use review pages and websites to send people to their affiliate links This method showed
exactly how people were making full time incomes on the internet and blew open the
door to the internet marketing industry It became the best selling internet eBook ever.
Most recently, Google ads have returned thanks to more advanced methods (and
extremely powerful methods) when one of the internet's biggest marketers released
Affiliate Project X and Day Job Killer The tactics described in each are very, very
effective and equip affiliates to crush their competition
All of these are extremely effective tools that every internet marketer should have in
their arsenal My point in informing you about all of these is to show you that affiliate
marketing is a big industry It is extremely powerful, effective, and easy to make A LOT
of money In addition, it is here to stay; that is, affiliate marketing is not going away
People all over the world are quitting their jobs to do affiliate marketing full time For a
long time, these methods have been used to crank out full time incomes Affiliate
marketers have had to adapt to changes, but those who have stuck with it (like myself)
continue to make unbelievable amounts of money However, the biggest change came
from a source that nobody expected.
The affiliate marketing game became even bigger and easier when a certain new source
was released This source of potential profits was easier than anything that had been
examined before, and many affiliates who had never made a dime started to make
hundreds of dollars a day when they found this new internet gold mine If you haven't
caught on, this method is implementing MySpace to promote your affiliate links
How does one find products to promote and generate their affiliate links? Thankfully,
there are affiliate networks that connect affiliates and product owners They also make
it much easier for the affiliates and product owners to co-exist They provide products
that you can immediately start promoting and making sales in just a few minutes.

For example, X is listed on the affiliate network PayDotCom, which
contains thousands of products that have very high payouts for each sale So if you
sign up for PayDotCom, which is absolutely free, you can promote all the products that
are in the PayDotCom marketplace.
The other affiliate network that I recommend is called Clickbank, and it is the biggest
affiliate network on the internet While I'm yet to find an affiliate network that I didn't
like, Clickbank is the leading in the industry Take note, however, that in order to
promote Clickbank products on MySpace, you will need to set up redirects However,
we will talk more about this later Again, Clickbank is the largest and most well
respected affiliate network on the internet, and I personally receive huge checks from
them every month
Here are a few others that you may want to look into:
Commision Junction
LinkShare
ClixGalore
There are so many products to promote on each one that I don't have need to look elsewhere,
but when you start to get creative with the way that you make money on MySpace, you may want to look into
other networks Commission Junction allows for a lot of creativity, and you may want
to give it look once you have some experience under your belt It all depends on what strategies you find that work for you
Now lets do a quick example of how you know your affiliate link works We'll continue
using the affiliate program as the example, since it's relevant (obviously,
because you're reading it!), and it converts very well on MySpace because it is MySpace
related (again, obviously) Remember that the methods described in this example can
be tested and duplicated for absolutely any affiliate program that you decide to join
Head back over to the Homepage and go all the way to the bottom
Click on the Affiliates link, and then click on the link to join the affiliate program
Sign up, and once you get your custom affiliate link, copy the link and paste it into
your browser.
You will be brought back to the Homepage (Look familiar? The only
difference is that your affiliate code has been saved so that, if a sale is made, you
receive credit for the sale)
Now scroll down and click the buy button; we will not be buying the product again,
but I am just going to show you how to make sure you set up your affiliate link
correctly.
After you hit the buy button, a new page will come up Now at the bottom of the page
you will see [affiliate : the affiliate ID] Whatever your affiliate ID is should be after
affiliate Therefore, if your affiliate link is Vijayashankar, you will see [affiliate :
Vijayashankar] at the bottom of the page When you see this, you know that your
affiliate link is working When you send people to that link and they purchase the
product, you will be credited with the sale, and money will be in your PayDotCom (or
Clickbank) account immediately (pretty cool, eh?)
After you have made sales, you can log into your account and see how much money
you have made Clickbank organizes everything with bar graphs and shows the
amount of money that you have earned in a day.

Also remember that, if you use MySpace to generate these type of sales, there are no fees, and this is
therefore pure profit!
Not only can you get paid per sale, but some affiliate networks will allow you to be
paid per lead and per click PayDotCom and Clickbank only do pay per sale, but I
would recommend waiting until you have some experience to promote other methods
Once you get the feel for how everything works, pay per lead and pay per click
networks can be very effective.

Summary
We can use affiliate networks to find products that are relevant to any group of people
or area of interest No matter what type of people we are targeting, we can find a
product among the hundreds of thousands of available products within affiliate
networks that will be desired by the contacts that we have Furthermore, affiliate
networks give large commissions, often 50% of the sale price or more, for each sale that
is generated When we use MySpace to make affiliate sales, we incur zero costs, and we
therefore make pure profit.
Now that we have an understanding of how affiliate networks, and you know how to
tell if your affiliate links work, lets move on and start learning some strategies so that
you can put MySpace to work for you and boost your bank account.

Dasavatharam Ulaga Nayagan lyrics, Stupid English Translation

Narcisstic stupid translation - from Diamond Pearls words.

Come Dance with me before you go!
Come Dance with me before you go!
Who is there in this whole world to beat You?
Tamil Nadu is proud to have borne You,
O Universal Hero! O Universal Hero!

The cheeks go red when You are here
And the UN (United Nations Assembly) will shortly be calling you. (!)
You are a mighty artist
A forever- youngster
A mystic poet, as well.
Within this mortal life, you have succeeded in taking 1000 births
In this small lifetime, You have seen the moon rise a thousand times.
You are always facing grave problems
Yet, you are never drained of enthusiasm
You started dancing when you were 5 years old.
You are still going strong.
You don't seem to run out of oxygen. (!)
And an Oscar award is not too far.
(Who is there in this whole world to beat You?---REPEAT)
O Universal Hero! O Universal Hero!
A human being is born with one face
Deep within, he hides a 100 faces
You have been 'peeling' faces
You have been studying minds
O Wise One! You are the only one to grasp Freud (Sigmund, Yes!)
Like the trees that rest inside seeds,
Universes sleep inside Your cells.
You walked through fire
To overcome Your own self.
Now, You have become an institution!
O Universal Hero! O Universal Hero!

The best way to interview. (worked for me)

Interviewing for a job is often very daunting and a fun exercise. The interviewers doesn't know what they want, and you know that. It is true that you should let prospective employers see you for who you are but there are certain strategies that can help you maximize your chances of clinching the coveted job. Read carefully and take note of the following 10 interview guidelines to be followed at all cost!

1. Dressing as you wish: There is absolutely no reason to dress well when going for an interview, and this includes neat hair and suitable footwear. If you have any doubts about the prospective employer's dress code, then just drop by near the office and observe how the staff going in and out are dressed. Unless you're interviewing to become a DJ, scruffy jeans and flip flops will not go down nicely.

2. Refuse a glass of water/coffee if it is offered: By accepting graciously, you subtly indicate that you are confident and 'open'. There are also strategic advantages of accepting; in case of difficult questions, you can buy some time by drinking a sip of water or complaining about coffee getting cold. Plus, holding the glass will give you something to do, preventing you from fidgeting.

3. Relax in posture and body language: Slouching, giving a limp handshake, and staring at the floor as you speak are all loud signals of low self-esteem and poor interpersonal skills. Also, reserve sitting with your legs crossed over box style or stretched out in front of you for your living room. Instead, make a good impression by walking in tall, smiling as you shake hands and folding your legs nicely below you. If there are multiple interviewers, always make eye contact with whoever is asking you the question.

4. The company has to identify your talents than you research the company: You should be able to answer the questions, 'What do you know about this company?' in your sleep. Unless you do enough research, you won't be able to prove your genuine interest in the job or distinguish your answer from all the other generic 'It's a great place to work'.

5. Don't bother about difficult questions: Pre-empt tough questions such as, 'What is your biggest weakness?' and prepare your answers in advance. Confuse them to the core. For e.g., If someone asked about CMM, you start saying about the process docs you have followed, etc.

6. Talk a lot: Taking too long to answer direct questions gives the impression that you are very intelligent and organize your thoughts and get to the point, eventually. Nervous rambling also implies that you may be covering up something or outright lying - OK if you are desperate for a job.

7. Give monosyllabic replies: If getting answers from you is as painful as extracting teeth, interviewer  thinks you are intelligent.

8. Answering your mobile phone in the middle of the interview: This should be obvious. This is important. Something could be urgent in the world. The girl friend might run away with someone else, if you dont answer. Answering your phone would not show a total lack of respect for your interviewer and his/ her time.

9. Blaming past employers: Every boss has infuriating habits, but blaming your problems on your ex-boss implies you're probably vindictive, prefer to shift the buck and are a people person! Something to talk about. No one goes and says, I got fired in a job right?

10. Getting the name/ title of your interviewer to follow up later: Following up after the interview is critical, and a call to the interviewer helps much more than a call to the HR person. Names don't bother much, at least the position or department person. I interviewed long ago, when a HR person was asking me all sort of technical questions and the PM was asking me all sorts of HR questions, who was very junior to me. He was there at the right place at the right time, and with Chamchagiri has gained in job. You can always write to them later to figure out, who that was. another incident, happened recently. I was to meet the CEO and I was talking to someone (as interview thinking he is CEO, who never told his name - smart guy) for 2 hours and when I got up to leave, he says, I am the HR executive here and the CEO is out of town, would call you later. Ahh....rrrr.gh...

Don't bother about rest from the night before, be well prepared a week before and conscious of these golden rules, the interview will go along more smoothly than you thought. If you don't get a job, never mind (if you can live on your parents savings till then), there is always a next time!

What kind of job I want?

  1. Comfortable timings
  2. Learning Potential (Hire and Fire stuff doesn't work anywhere, make sure you hire bright and stick to it for life)
  3. Managers/Seniors Involvement and Mentorship
  4. Reasonable salary, as it affects social status. (I cannot think of hosting parties at home - money, space, style)
  5. Time offs and leaves for personal stuff. (I took only one day off for my fathers death).
  6. Based on added value and goal achievement, bonuses to be paid. What I have seen over the last few years - Zilch, only on paper.
  7. Office parties, get-together's and related events for team building
  8. Nearer to home (or closer to best schools)
  9. Respect all around (no one is a superstar on every day of the year!)
  10. Spend money on right talent to expect good returns.

Career Move - Is it he right choice baby? Ah Ah

Before making a career move, ensure your work and powers are well defined, and you aren't driven by the wrong reasons--money, prestige.

Does your new opportunity seem exciting — or just different? We ask because you have our alarm bells ringing.

Not that we don't like exciting jobs; far from it. It is just that we have seen too many people take a new job just to get rid of the old one.

That choice can work; we have all heard stories of people who owe their careers to a spontaneous switch. But, in general, when it comes to managing your career, we would have to invoke and twist an old saying: It is better to be smart than lucky.

By smart, we mean informed—which is exactly what you aren't right now. You are just intrigued, probably because you are a little bit bored or frustrated at your current place.

Maybe you work for a family business and you have reached as close to the top as you will ever get. Or, maybe your company isn't growing. The specifics are irrelevant. What matters is that you seem poised to leap before you look. Don't—at least not until you have conducted some serious due diligence.

Start with the opportunity itself. From where we sit, it is pretty confounding: The work isn't exactly what you know but, of even more concern, your role isn't defined. It is as if your acquaintance is saying, "We'll figure out the details after you get here." To which we say, "Run for the hills."

Almost nothing in management is more frustrating than being given responsibility without authority. Your new boss—whether he or she is your acquaintance or not—will surely want results from you soon enough. But, without a clearly defined job, you are in trouble. You may not, for instance, be able to hire people or spend any real money. Your co-workers may shrug you off. Who are you, anyway?

This dynamic has no better illustration than a story told by Cathie Black in her terrific business memoir, Basic Black. After a year of being wooed by company founder Al Neuharth, Black accepted the job as President of USA Today in 1983.

On her first day, however, she was mortified when an advertising executive approached her to announce, "I just want you to know up front, I am not going to be reporting to you." With a sick feeling, Black recalls, she realized she had made a classic mistake: "I had never nailed down, in writing, the reporting structure and what my actual duties were to be." It took Black months to straighten things out for herself at USA Today though, as everyone knows, the story of her long run at the paper had a very happy ending.

And your new job might, too, if you get its specifics clarified before signing on. Even so, there is a second and final piece of due diligence you cannot ignore, and it concerns values. You need to make sure the new opportunity being dangled before you isn't attractive for the wrong reasons—namely, money and prestige.

Make no mistake. There is nothing wrong with taking a job that increases your compensation or enhances your reputation. But, too often, such jobs can come with a real cost to your less-than-immediate future, not to mention your pride and authenticity.

We have a friend who grabbed an unexpected offer for its elevated title—Vice-President—and a Rs3 lakhs salary boost, only to end up as the fall guy for a company that was going down the tube. Nothing personal here.

Another friend, a golf pro, gave up his job at a friendly little club for the glamour of working at a fancy, big-name course. But he went from partner to serf, treated by members as little more than a scheduler. At the small club, his wife was an office manager and playing member. At the big one, she is working in the bag room.

Yes, the pro had feared this exact outcome. But he had let the oohs and aahs of his friends over the new job's cachet drown out the big uh-oh sound in his head.

Without doubt, the offer in front of you could turn out to be the breakthrough of your dreams. Maybe it will replace monotony with magic. But don't leap for it without looking hard, both inside the new company for clarity and purpose and into your own heart for a sign that the change is worth its consequences.

Controlling Death

Looking at the way the suicides are happening, makes me wonder why do they take such steps.

They are Controlling Death themselves. No pain no Gain. It is the right option.

As long as it is satisfying them, probably we should not bother.

May be they did not get what they wanted in life.

Sujatha wrote in a story, that after a certain age (60 I think), the government, take the body back. Use for research. Something like that.

Looking at the plight of parents, including mine, who were solely Dependant on my brother, at times controlling death is an option. My dad is dead now, and my mom in undergoing the old age pains.

Governments need not worry about food, petrol, subsidy etc. People who are capable should live. No capitalism.

Money is important for everything in your life.

Life is not a joke.

Money is important for everything in your life.

Without money no one is going to respect you.

The more money you have the better you are. Whatever means you can earn, earn it.

I have seen personally from college days, the gang hangs around only with the folks with money.

The friends for life are the ones, who I met during school days, middle class. Speak to them once a while, they don't have anything in the hidden agenda to have friendship. In the modern email world, I do have a friend who writes long letters to me. I have not met him since my marriage.

Dasavatharam - nice marketing

The way everyone is talking about Dasavatharam - nice marketing... once step above Rajinikanth's Sivaji.

I hope the movie lives upto the expectations. Junk heroine Asin Pisin....

For me Urvashi Theatre is always there, with 80 bucks ticket and decent AC, no drain in budget. (parking is a problem)

PVR, Inox, literally make you pay through your nose ($ 15 in US is better based on earnings).

Kamal should screen the movie for free for school students, and poor folks. Free marketing. he will get money for Marudhanayakam (aka Mohamed Yusuf Khan).

Men and Women (most forwarded item)

Men:

1. All men are extremely busy.

2. Although they are so busy, they still have time for women.

3. Although they have time for women, they don't really care for them.

4. Although they don't really care for them, they always have one around.

5. Although they always have one around them, they always try their luck with others.

6. Although they try their luck with others, they get really pissed off if the first woman leaves them.

7. Although the woman leaves them they still don't learn from their mistakes and still try their luck with others.

Women:

1. The most important thing for a woman is financial security.

2. Although this is so important, they still go out and buy expensive clothes and stuff.

3. Although they always buy expensive clothes, they say they never have something to wear.

4. Although they never have something to wear, they always dress beautifully.

5. Although they always dress beautifully, their clothes are always just 'an old rag'.

6. Although their clothes are always 'just an old rag', they still expect you to compliment them.

7. Although they expect you to compliment them, when you do, they don't believe you.

Arasangam - a review

What to write about the movie Arasangam, of Captain Vijayakanth - the future CM of  Tamilnadu, that we saw over the weekend?

Very good movie, with the latest story line. Limited punch dialogues. Nice to see Captain talking English. Fast editing, Hollywood style.

It was thrilling with the new malayalam villain, making things tense and with sutle moments of heroine suicide in the climax....

Camera in Canada was superb.

Lousy songs, for the masses. Who is that belly dancer?

Education versus Business

"Formal education has put man in situations where he will get locked in as a salary receiving person"
This statement is not always true. The classic example, I wish to cite, is the case of legions of students who choose to take up engineering at the undergraduate level not because of any particular inclination or natural ability but because they want a software job. In fact the choice is made quite early on in terms of choosing the right combination of mathematics and science as opposed to arts or commerce in order to be eligible for engineering. It is a mindset or a mentality or a social thing – people want a risk free, nine to five job with reasonable monetary rewards that formal education cannot significantly alter in most cases, because the need for anything more is simply missing. At the risk of belaboring the point, I wish to point out that the same system that produces these safety seeking conformists engineers has also produced a maverick engineer entrepreneur like Narayan Murthy.
"People lose the drive and the passion to become rich as a result of it."
This can be explained by two different points – either the person simply did not have a passion to be rich in the first place not because they are passionate about the work/service but because they are simply not ambitious. As hard as it can be to understand this point of view, this species does exist and is by far the most populated and there exists another subset who have not figured out what they want and hence are not ambitious. Now the other possibility could be that these people are in hot pursuit of something else. Classic examples are the Indian mandarins or the IAS lot. They are power seekers, at least the honest ones with everyone wanting to be the principal secretary to Government of India. Then there are the mad scientists, who almost never peruse the Nobel Prize for the cash but for the associated recognition and prestige. Most people do science very rarely for the money and more because they are in pursuit of a solution to a problem never solved before, because the chase is exhilarating and results quite often give a humongous high. This is not idealism or escapism or a euphemism for "Mere paas Ma hai". These people simply think that power or the thrill of the chase is more rewarding than money.

When one makes the point about "Return On Intelligence", the return need not necessarily be "gold" but it can be "glory" and in this context it could be fame or recognition or power or whatever else makes you get up and get out of the bed in the morning. The corollary to the theorem of success is when one succeeds in one's chosen field no matter how "success" is defined in that field, money follows.

What is a classic novel?

What is a classic novel?

It should be contemporary, non theoretical.

It can cover a season or a life.

Mixing generations and mysticism (rebirth) steps outside the classic definition.

Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan is a classic historical novel, set with sort of real life events. Got it?

Pitahmagan movie by Vikram is a classic movie by Bala, which cannot be written. So the movie media can be classic in a certain aspect, including Sarkar Raj.

Dasavatharam is pure fiction and action.

Ice Fishing and Yoga

Ice Fishing

Yoga has something in it.

You cut a hole in the ice on a frozen lake, and put your bait line and wait for the catch.

You might catch one or none, the enjoyment is what matters.

Naya Leek by Bachchan Sr. to AB

Naya Leek

Pulled and torn by the strains of life and living

My sons ask me

"Why did you give birth to us ?"

And I do not possess an answer to this

That even my father did not ask me before giving birth to me,

Nor my father asked his father before producing him

Nor my grandfather did ask his father before bringing him.

The trials and tribulations of life and living

Were there before

And are there now too, perhaps more

And shall be there tomorrow, even greater.

Why don't you make a new beginning, a new thinking,

Ask your sons before giving birth to them !

Keep of the grass is a super duper book by Karan Bajaj

Keep of the grass is a super duper book by Karan Bajaj - reminded me of Shantaram, and what Jeyamohan has written about Aghoree dead body flesh eating tribes.. (Naan Kadavul - Thamizh Movie). Worth every paisa of Rs 195/-, might get deals online.

Excerpt from the Book

I spent many evenings watching the daily art on the Benares ghats, mesmerized by the lights cast by the thousands of diyas on the water, and the sound of bhajans sung by impassioned devotees. They have so little, I thought every time I heard them, yet they have so much to thank God about. And here I am, a rich, fat, selfish bastard who has everything, but can't stop complaining. Everything but happiness, I would remind myself. But what is happiness, and why does it continue to mock me? I have never been a religious person, but the mystical artis did rouse something in me, and I desperately wanted to believe in the existence of a higher truth than the one I knew. The ghats provided their fair share of bizarre experiences as well. One night as I sat staring transfixed at a funeral pyre long after the crowds had dispersed for the night, I heard a sudden movement from the pyre. Benares has a reputation for being a dangerous city at night, and I had been forewarned that taking midnight strolls on the ghats was begging for trouble. But I'd smoked some strong stuff and was acutely lethargic. The abrupt movement which had attracted my attention seemed to be caused by a thin, white ghost emerging from somewhere around the pyre. His tall, angular body was covered with ash, and he seemed to be gliding towards me. I wondered briefly whether I was hallucinating because of the marijuana, but quickly dismissed the possibility – I was a committed stoner by then, and had smoked way more before. He stood beside me now. 'Do you have a cigarette?' he asked in perfect English, with a trace of an American accent. Clearly he sounded more like a man than a ghost. But then, how does one know how ghosts sound, I thought? My heartbeat returned to normal though as I looked closely. It was a breed I recognized well – an American pothead hoping unsuccessfully to discover missing pieces of his soul in India. I saw one in the mirror every day, after all. I offered him my new favourite cigarette brand, India Kings.'Ah, I like it,' he said after taking a small puff. We kept silent for a while – what small talk do you make with an ash-smeared white American yogi who just appeared out of a funeral pyre? 'Where are you from?' he said finally. Uh-huh. For me this wasn't the easiest conversation starter. I decided to stick to Manhattan for this conversation.'Well, then we are from the same country,' he said, 'I was born in Texas, and even worked as an investment banker in Manhattan for a while. Great city. I tried to have a bite off the Big Apple, but I guess I couldn't digest it.' I looked to see if he was pulling my leg but he seemed serious. I wondered if I would become like him one day – streaked with ash, meeting fellow confused souls on the ghats, and telling them about my banking days. That would be a sad end to my odyssey, I thought. But then again, maybe not. This dude's eyes shone with obvious pleasure and contentment. He looked…he looked almost happy, although it could well have been the ethereal lights from the remaining diyas. Still, I was intrigued. He obviously knew something I didn't know. I racked my brains wondering how to sustain the conversation. He appeared completely comfortable and calm in the silence. Finally, for fear of losing him, I asked. 'Pardon me for asking but I thought I saw you come out from behind the funeral pyre. Was I mistaken or were you praying there or something?''Or something,' he replied vaguely. I looked at him puzzled. I wasn't expecting him to be evasive. What could you possibly be hiding when you are buck-naked and smeared with ash? 'What were you doing there if I may ask?' I pressed expecting to hear about some complicated Indian prayer that helps achieve salvation. He replied nonchalantly, 'I was hunting for flesh. Fingers, to be specific. Those are my weakness, very delicious. I finally found some that were not charred by the fire, and am carrying them with me now. Do you want to see one?' I was stunned, convinced he was either a psychopath or a lunatic or both. I was planning my escape now. He must have sensed my panic because he continued calmly, 'Look, I don't expect you to understand – your sphere of comprehension is very different. I am a part of the Aghoree sect, which you probably haven't heard of. Don't worry, we are not going to sacrifice you or kill you or something.'I was hardly reassured. 'What is the Aghoree sect?' I asked, curious despite myself. He replied, 'Aghorees wander from place to place, looking for human remains because that is all we eat. We believe that everything that comes from God is an expression of his love and beauty. By feasting on the darkest, most repulsive of His creations, charred human remains, we show our devotion to all creation.'By now, I was shivering with fear, and my terror grew when I saw one more Aghoree baba, his body smeared with ash as well, walking towards us. Maybe he had a toe fetish or a tongue fetish. I didn't care to find out. 'Jai Shambu Baba. I must take your leave now. It is late – you can keep the rest of the cigarettes,' I said. The white baba smiled an eerie smile as I almost ran from there convinced that I had encountered a crazed cult of lunatics. 'Serves me right for wandering around stoned so late in the night,' I thought to myself as I rode through the empty streets trying hard to stay calm and not fall off my bike.Back at home, I shakily downed several pegs of Scotch to calm my nerves. Soon curiosity got the better of me, and I went on the Internet connecting via the excruciatingly slow dial-up that I had installed in the room. I searched with various combinations of Aghoree and found that the sect was concentrated around Benares because of the easy availability of human remains there. I would have made a particularly good dinner, I thought, since I had become really fat on the rich Indian food in the last year. For all my confusions, ending as a value meal (zero procurement cost) for a bunch of ash-smeared yogis was hardly the solution I was seeking. My nocturnal wanderings did slow down significantly after the incident, although it didn't make me stop getting stoned at the ghaats. Only now, I did so in broad daylight and full public view, the fear of flesh-eating Babas far outweighing that of spending time in a prison cell again....................

Targetted Internet advertisements

Just happened to read an article from The Economist on behavioural Internet ad targeting being tested by couple of companies.

For the last 14 months plus, I am involved in targetted advertisements for cars in the internet with a flagship product of the company I work with.

The job is simple, submit to internet search engines, and wait for the click ( he he , I wish so...) but it is dangerous. Lots of underground and background marketing has to be done.

As the article says, customize the advts. based on his searches and views (stepping on privacy ofcourse, which Google/Yahoo don't give a damn).

You would have seen yourself, how these Google engines target advertisements. I received an article sent by a friend on World Friends Week or some crap, and immediately on the top I see adultfriendfinder advt. (tricking you basically) and also the side bar, will be PPC advts. Most of the times, I click all of them and close. Let them water their advt. money! :-) Sometimes, they get paid mroe money, if a person signs up then and there. I was told by Tata AIG folks that they pay Rs 35 per customer signup to Google, not a bad clicks work, while 35 paise is given as commission to the website, that has played this advt. No wonder Google's Market Cap is too much!

There is something called profiling these engines do. If you sound intellectual (like reading NYTimes, Economist), they thing you are starved/nerdy and try to push adult stuff, where they make more money.

Aha finally India Wins against Pakistan in ODI

Aha finally India Wins against Pakistan in ODI, by 140 runs today at Bangladesh (Mirpur).

Very good batting display by Sehwag, Virendar and Gambhir, Gautam.

Excellent bowling by Praveen Kumar (Anand Sweets, Bangalore) and Piyush Chawla (I know Anil Kumble is fuming in Bangalore).

Hope they would keep the form, if the betting syndicate allows it.

Could not see the full match, as my son was insistent on getting an outside meal today, and had veggie chinese... kids had chicken though.

Taare Zameen Par DVD/VCD to be released soon!

Aamir Khan the greatest Actor writer writes in his blog... http://www.aamirkhan.com/blog.htm

I did not like him internalizing Airheads (1994) movie climax for Rang De Basanti.

Taare Zameen Par DVD/VCD to be released soon (by 3rd week of June 2008)! He is going to price it very cheap I am told. He is also going to add, lots of stuff in terms of making of film, about actors etc... probably a Director's cut! Do you know one thing, he makes his entrance in the movie only in the half way mark, as a clown. I have had a chance to chat with him online... a very down to earth person.

People who have watched on bootlegged version ( Thiruttu DVD ) have done harm to themselves and kids than themselves. I have nice Thamizh ketta varthai for them, but would subtly tell them as enjalakdi goia. (F.. beggar F.....ers). Also imagine MGR telling the word in Tamil meaning "together" = Koo....i. Sorry for going out of deceny for a bit! (Pardon me brothers/sisters)

We as a family watched the movie with kids in PVR Bangalore. Not sure whether I checked my mailed in blog on that. I will have to post it from my outbox in gmail. Will do it soon.

Indian National Film Awards 2007 announced!

Congrats Muthazhagu, aka Priya Mani in Paruthiveeran (a local Bangalore girl who loves to eat out!) won the National Film Award for Best Female Actor....she did act very well though, with the mind bothering climax of 4 men raping her. After making her debut in Bharathiraaja's Kangalal Kaithu Sei, Priya followed it up with Adu Oru Kanakkalam, directed by another famous cinematographer-director, Balu Mahendra, which was a rubbish movie with Dhanush, the son-in-law of Rajinikanth. I had predicted this when we had watched this movie in Chennai.

Kumudam the Tamil magazine (http://www.kumudam.com) has always written so bad in articles and Q&A and jollufied on Namitha (Bramandam). She proved a point. Thanks to Bharathraaja and Amir Sulthan.

In Ananda Vikatan, except Madan (cartoonist-writer), no one wrote good about her.

As usual and expected, Lage Raho Munna Bhai won the script, music, lyrics and best picture (for wholesome entertainment) awards. Now Sanjay Dutt will be acquitted.

Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who declined the Special Jury award in 2001 following a controversy about a partisan jury, won the Best Actor award for his role in Suman Ghosh's Podokkhep.

Surprisingly the Bachchan clan did not win anything! They are very good actors.

Not but not the least,
Priyanandan's Malayalam film Pulijanmam, which stars Murali, bagged the award for the Best Film. For a while Malayalam movies were not winning for the last few years, owing to the partiality of the award selectors (lots of cases against them).

Hey Hey, I am not cinema crazy here, just supporting the actors and creativity!

Will Job Hopping Damage Your Career?

Will Job Hopping Damage Your Career?

Found some interesting facts on the above topic on various sites, consolidating here…

Ram's grandfather worked in the same company his whole life. His mother labored in the same industry until she retired, though for different employers. But that kind of longevity was not for Sam and his brother, who have worked in six different career fields during 30 combined years.

Muzio, president and CEO of Group Harmonics Inc., in Albuquerque, New Mexico, says accelerated movement -- often called job-hopping -- is becoming the norm.

"Not long ago we all said that the average person changes jobs about seven times in his or her lifetime; now we say it's probably more than 10 jobs over at least five different careers," he explains.

It's a generational trend, experts say. Generations X and Y are more comfortable switching jobs every few years than their predecessors were, and as they scale the ranks of the job market, such changes are increasingly accepted and understood. But some call it a lack of commitment that's damaging to workers and employers.

The New Style of Job Search?

Some experts say frequent job changes don't mean death to your career -- they're just part of work life.

"I don't think you can be judgmental [and say it's] good or bad -- it just is; it's a fact of life in today's workplace. It's fruitless to impose a judgment on it," explains Sally Haver, senior vice president of business development at the Ayers Group in New York. "If people don't move with change, they get left in the dust."

Rich Gee, an executive career coach based in Stamford, Connecticut, agrees, and suggests finding a new term for job-hopping.

"It's just the nature of the beast of employment: Expect people to leave after two to three years, and be happy if they stick around longer," Gee says.

Brooks Savage, CEO of the Executive Staffing Group in Raleigh, North Carolina, sees it differently.

"When you don't have someone stay in a post two to three years, how do you learn? To get a degree out of college at least takes four years," he says, noting neither he nor his clients are interested in resumes of job-hoppers (people who change positions every year or so). He'll also ask candidates about any jobs where they spent less than five years.

Savage questions the commitment of individuals who don't stick around long, and says the job market could change dramatically if commitment levels don't increase.

Job-Hopping Pros & Cons

Ultimately, it's important to plan carefully when evaluating a job change and not switch too often, experts say, citing the following pros and cons:

  • Pro: Pay increases. "The way you make a large jump in your pay scale is when you leave a company and go to another one. It's proven time and time again," Gee says.
  • Pro: Networking. Gee says different gigs expose you to new networks of people, which can be a real asset.
  • Pro: Learning new skills. New environments sometimes teach workers new skills and how to function more quickly, says Kathy Jeffery, vice president of human resources at Whitman Hart Consulting in Chicago.
  • Con: Landing in a worse situation. "You might jump into a new job that's worse than your old job," Gee explains.
  • Con: Moving too soon. "If you're really leaving places rather quickly you may not be extracting the full value from what that particular workplace has to offer you," notes Haver, of the Ayers Group.

The net result is, if you don't like your current job, move on! I have been there and done that! Cheers!

How to write a better resume?

Your CV does not get you the job - just the interview call.

Attributes

1. Your Curriculum Vitae should enable the person screening a pile of them to quickly ascertain the salient points that will decide whether you are a potential candidate.

2. At the same time, it should also contain the detail that will interest an interviewer. To fulfil these attributes, it must be easy to read.

Layout
The standard way to layout a Curriculum Vitae is as follows:

1. Start with your personal details: name, address, phone numbers and email address.

2. Continue with your educational qualifications, professional qualifications and skills including software and methods.

3. Follow this with your experience in reverse chronological order. List employers, dates and your title. Describe the skills and methods you used and your achievements.

4. It is vital that you are conscious of the skills and experience required by the position for which you are applying and weave your own experience of them into your narrative.

5. End with interests and hobbies but be careful: candidates with a consuming hobby that could interfere with the business day, might be avoided.

6. Many recruiters advocate that your Curriculum Vitae fit onto two pages but don't feel constrained by this if you genuinely need more space to relate your key skills and experience where they coincide with the requirements of the position for which you are applying.

Bespoke
It is essential that your Curriculum Vitae clearly demonstrate your suitability for the position. So, consider producing a separate CV for each application that directly addresses a match between the skills and experience required and offered. The overall content may be the same but you could put your most relevant skills and experience first.

Typography
Your CV may only have a few seconds to impress the scanner before being relegated to the failed pile - also called the bin. So it is of paramount importance that your Curriculum Vitae can be easily and quickly read. Achieve this by following some simple guidelines:

1. When word processing your Curriculum Vitae, save it in Rich Text Format (RTF) to ensure that someone without your word-processing software can easily open and read it. PDF documents can also be read by anyone who has the ubiquitous and free Adobe Acrobat Reader but remember that readers will not be able to edit your Curriculum Vitae, which may or may not be desirable.

2. Use black ink printed on a quality bond paper.

3. Your Curriculum Vitae must be easy to read fast. You can achieve this by the use of wide margins so that each line of text has no more than about 70 characters. Think about newspapers that print in quite narrow columns that can be read by scanning the eye down rather than from side to side. Conversely, narrow margins with wide lines mean that the eye struggles to move to the next correct line when the distance from the right side back to the left is too far. Try top and bottom margins of about ¾ inch or 20 mm with left and right margins of 1¼ inches or 33 mm.

4. Although san serif type faces such as Arial have a clean modern look, it is actually easier to read serif faces such as Times New Roman, Palatino or Perpetua because the little feet or serifs on each character form an invisible line for the eye to follow. Because Times is so overused, you may prefer to stand out by using Palatino or Perpetua. Whichever you choose, stick with one font throughout. The only other layout that looks pleasing and that you will see used in many newspapers and magazines is to use a sans serif face for all heads and subheads and a serif face for everything else.

5. Don't mix lots of font sizes. Either use one size throughout - 11 point is a good choice - or use a font one point larger for heads and subheads.

6. A word-processor is not a typewriter, so don't use the space bar to align text. Set proper stops instead. This will also make it easy if a recruiter needs to amend your Curriculum Vitae to a standard house style because stops can easily be adjusted whereas unnecessary spaces take ages to remove.

7. Don't use underlining or ALL CAPITALS. They are old-fashioned, look like shouting and belong to the typewriter age when they were the only way to highlight text. Instead, use bold, italic or bold italic but do so sparingly.

8. Above all, leave plenty of white space. Firstly, it makes your Curriculum Vitae easier to read. Secondly, it gives the interviewer room to write notes.

Simple Java Questions and Answers

1. How could Java classes direct program messages to the system console, but error messages, say to a file?

The class System has a variable out that represents the standard output, and the variable err that represents the standard error device. By default, they both point at the system console. This how the standard output could be re-directed:
Stream st =
new Stream (new
FileOutputStream ("techinterviews_com.txt"));
System.setErr(st);
System.setOut(st);

2. What's the difference between an interface and an abstract class?

An abstract class may contain code in method bodies, which is not allowed in an interface. With abstract classes, you have to inherit your class from it and Java does not allow multiple inheritance. On the other hand, you can implement multiple interfaces in your class.

3. Why would you use a synchronized block vs. synchronized method?

Synchronized blocks place locks for shorter periods than synchronized methods.

4. Explain the usage of the keyword transient?

This keyword indicates that the value of this member variable does not have to be serialized with the object. When the class will be de-serialized, this variable will be initialized with a default value of its data type (i.e. zero for integers).

5. How can you force garbage collection?

You can't force GC, but could request it by calling System.gc(). JVM does not guarantee that GC will be started immediately.

6. How do you know if an explicit object casting is needed?

If you assign a superclass object to a variable of a subclass's data type, you need to do explicit casting. For example:
Object a;Customer b; b = (Customer) a;
When you assign a subclass to a variable having a supeclass type, the casting is performed automatically.

7. What's the difference between the methods sleep() and wait()

The code sleep(1000); puts thread aside for exactly one second. The code wait(1000), causes a wait of up to one second. A thread could stop waiting earlier if it receives the notify() or notifyAll() call. The method wait() is defined in the class Object and the method sleep() is defined in the class Thread.

8. Can you write a Java class that could be used both as an applet as well as an application?

Yes. Add a main() method to the applet.

9. What's the difference between constructors and other methods?

Constructors must have the same name as the class and can not return a value. They are only called once while regular methods could be called many times.

10. Can you call one constructor from another if a class has multiple constructors

Yes. Use this() syntax.

11. Explain the usage of Java packages.

This is a way to organize files when a project consists of multiple modules. It also helps resolve naming conflicts when different packages have classes with the same names. Packages access level also allows you to protect data from being used by the non-authorized classes.

12. If a class is located in a package, what do you need to change in the OS environment to be able to use it?

You need to add a directory or a jar file that contains the package directories to the CLASSPATH environment variable. Let's say a class Employee belongs to a package com.xyz.hr; and is located in the file c:/dev/com.xyz.hr.Employee.java. In this case, you'd need to add c:/dev to the variable CLASSPATH. If this class contains the method main(), you could test it from a command prompt window as follows:
c:\>java com.xyz.hr.Employee

13. What's the difference between J2SDK 1.5 and J2SDK 5.0?

There's no difference, Sun Microsystems just re-branded this version.

14. What would you use to compare two String variables - the operator == or the method equals()?

I'd use the method equals() to compare the values of the Strings and the = = to check if two variables point at the same instance of a String object.

15. Does it matter in what order catch statements for FileNotFoundException and IOExceptipon are written?

A. Yes, it does. The FileNoFoundException is inherited from the IOException. Exception's subclasses have to be caught first.

16. Can an inner class declared inside of a method access local variables of this method?

It's possible if these variables are final.

17. What can go wrong if you replace && with & in the following code:
String a=null;
if (a!=null && a.length()>10)
{...}

A single ampersand here would lead to a NullPointerException.

18. What's the main difference between a Vector and an ArrayList

Java Vector class is internally synchronized and ArrayList is not.

19. When should the method invokeLater()be used?

This method is used to ensure that Swing components are updated through the event-dispatching thread.

20. How can a subclass call a method or a constructor defined in a superclass?

Use the following syntax: super.myMethod(); To call a constructor of the superclass, just write super(); in the first line of the subclass's constructor.

21. What's the difference between a queue and a stack?

Stacks works by last-in-first-out rule (LIFO), while queues use the FIFO rule.

22. You can create an abstract class that contains only abstract methods. On the other hand, you can create an interface that declares the same methods. So can you use abstract classes instead of interfaces?

Sometimes. But your class may be a descendent of another class and in this case the interface is your only option.

23. What comes to mind when you hear about a young generation in Java?

Garbage collection.

24. What comes to mind when someone mentions a shallow copy in Java?

Object cloning.

25. If you're overriding the method equals() of an object, which other method you might also consider?

hashCode()

26. You are planning to do an indexed search in a list of objects. Which of the two Java collections should you use: ArrayList or LinkedList?

ArrayList

27. How would you make a copy of an entire Java object with its state?

Have this class implement Cloneable interface and call its method clone().

28. How can you minimize the need of garbage collection and make the memory use more effective?

Use object pooling and weak object references.

29. There are two classes: A and B. The class B need to inform a class A when some important event has happened. What Java technique would you use to implement it?

If these classes are threads I'd consider notify() or notifyAll(). For regular classes you can use the Observer interface.

30. What access level do you need to specify in the class declaration to ensure that only classes from the same directory can access it?

You do not need to specify any access level, and Java will use a default package access level.

What do you need for retiring at 45?

I am working on that.

I will write a series of articles.

Wait and watch.

Why did the oil price go up?

For the last one year oil price is going up - 5 times. $25 to $125 and above...

Some of the reasons, found on net

- Iraq war (and some more)
- OPEC production is less
- Headache of transporting in sea, with Green Peace norms.
- Oil producing countries are doing a bit to produce less. (but they have to burn oil gas, even if they don't drill...)
- In last 5 years, the cars have doubled on the worlds roads, and most major cities have only one single person driving. Governments should do something about this.
- Oil has been a good source of income for most of the developing countries (In India = 30% of GDP depends on imported OIL).
- Management of inflation, is pathetic.
- Different form of subsidies given by all countries
- Iraq war (and some more)

Euro Cup lesson and Stock Market

The Euro Football Cup is underway in Switzerland and Austria. The opening match saw the hosts lose 0 to 1 to the Czech Republic. The streets of Zurich were filled with surly looking people, huddled against the constant drizzle. It looked like a parade for the dead. About 20,000 people walking, but no words to be heard. Just the parading of the boots as it hit the wet, cobble stoned streets. Maybe they were on their way to send emails to FIFA (the world body of the football council, which happens to be headquartered in Zurich) protesting the refereeing.

Maybe a sport that has billions behind it in terms of sponsorships and payments should have recourse to electronic medium that can verify the calls of the referees. Unless, of course, as I was told there could be some crime syndicates involved in ensuring that the game stays subjective and prone to human error. It works better for the odds and the betting mechanism.

Some of the calls did seem a little absurd to me, not that I am a football person, as such, so not really an authority on the sport.

"It was not a good game", said the traffic attendant as he watched his fellow countrymen trudging in silence, "we lost".

A matter of fact, shrug-the-shoulders statement. We lost. No excuses for the bad calls that may have occurred. A country waits for 2 years to host a tournament. They wait for 2 years to see their team win.

All that training by the various team members. All that hard work. And then, poof, a few bad calls and the game is over. One hit in the knee and the captain is sidelined for the entire tournament. Yes, he did cry in frustration as he was taken off the field. I felt sorry for him. He was the innocent victim.

Just like the investors in the Indian stock markets.

Why do people go to Temple/Place of worship?

- For the sake of religion
- Mental Peace
- Can meet people :-)
- Fresh Air
- Healthy with walks etc.

Yeddy is BSY

As per the expressed interest, CM of Karnataka wants his name in short form to be addressed as BSY instead of Yeddy.

But I feel Yeddy brings a sense of belongingness when a person addresses him like that.

Future, Studies and Education

The human inherent tendency in shaping one's future is: (I don't care about repercussions)

Future= Actions of a person in the present driven by events the person experienced in the past.

Ideally one's future should be shaped as.

Future= Actions by the person in the present driven by a goal set in the future for himself/herself.

Well this might sound disjointed to your post. However,

Achiever or the so called "Extraordinary person "… is a common man/woman who makes a paradigm shift by shaping their future based on what he/ she wants to be, say at a point down the line few years in the future.

And this is independent from person to person based on the circumstances, environment they have been brought, which turns them into extraordinary persons or just an average person or poor.

Educated Poor, middle class…
The next generation Educated Poor, middle class…
(I) Get educated, with no Goal in future… ( or complacent with the current living), will remain in the same level.
(II) Get educated, dislike the current living, to change their life , make a paradigm shift., set a goal an what they want to be in future and become achiever or …rich.
(III) Dislike their current living shun education ….make paradigm shift set a goal for future , will act in present driven by the goal and become an achiever or rich (now they will fall into the of uneducated rich…and about their next generation…well the cycle starts).
(IV) Dislike their current living… shun education….set no goals…no work…and end up poor.

Uneducated Rich
The next generation Uneducated Rich
.
(i) Get educated, complacent with their current life style, sets no goal, continue to be the rich feeding on the wealth they have inherited….or might end up poor if they spend it all.
(ii) Get educated, continue to set new goals inheriting his/her parents Characteristics….progress further (and fall into the Educated Rich).
(iii) Get spoiled misusing their parents wealth, shun education…. but set goals for the future achieve as his /her parents…remain uneducated Rich.
(iv) Get spoiled misusing their parent's wealth, shun education, and set no goals….end up poor.
Education can get money and money can be used to get education but ultimately it depends on what one "Wants" (Well the "Want" should be out of sane thought practical though).
