Blue Cross, PETA and Bangalore Stray Dogs

Nothing much is done by Blue Cross or PETA in Bangalore on stray dogs in the street.
Bangalore became a laughing stock, in the recent Marathon. I personally witnessed at around 8 AM near Ulsoor Lake, last Sunday during teh Bangalore Marathon, my friend being chased by a stray dog. Pathetic. Don't blame government authorities, they are doing their best, working under the law.
PETA folks, pardon me for being cynical, should also take this issue than going to the meat cutters shop & KFC for photo ops in newspapers & media.
Does PETA guys know that vegetables are also a form of life, where the plants grow to give them to us? Do they know whether they cry, if we pluck their fruits etc? Disgusting!
Even today morning when I was walking down to office on Bannerghatta Road, some fierce dog started chasing me. Luckily I escaped. If I had had a gun, you know the rest!

(I would also receive some funny comments like these from shit eaters... without understanding what I wrote...

i think this way of thinking is highly unfair...dont u have a heart ...u cold heartless soul...i curse you that u shold be born the same in ur next birth....they also have a rite 2 live....ur children should loose there legs under the wheels of a bus...have u done 1 thing good in ur life.....bloody guy....ur are in their region ..not they... Neha, Bangalore IP address 59.92.199.176 (BSNL User)

and I would trace them down with the special software that I have installed on my blog, with IP id and ensure that their balls/boobs cut .. Also with my magical powers I can send kutti satan to immobilize their good will)

Stupid Indian Team Selection!

Well why is Virendra Sehwag in? For scoring 50 runs in 5 innings for Delhi in 3 Ranji Matches or his records speak? (or did he do an Abhijit khale?) Kumble's point is not taken. Old Captain! He wasted India's cahnces by not bowling Ganguly when there were 15 overs/ 1 hour left for close of play or 4.30 PM. Just 3 wickets needed.... you know the rest. Keep reading cricinfo.com.

Just bcoz Vengsarkar has issues, his selection methods should not hamper.

Hats off to other selectors, for sticking to Dinesh Kaarthick. Murali Kathik should have been there, bu tanyway he is going to go there for a commentary trip, anyways! At 31, what can you expect from BCCI, unles ICL catches him.

ICL is far better, and all their matches should get the List A status.

Proabbly ICL, should be allowed to send an Indian team, to tournamanets by ICC, only with Indian born/passport players. that would be great!

Way to go Chennai Superstars! Kumarans are great! (I like Kumaran name, as I am from Tiruppur & he is a Chettiar too!)

(c) Vijayashankar, and any unauthorised publishing other than me, warrants a payment of 1 billion USA dollars!

Masthana Masthana 2 (Dec 16th 2007)

Masthana Masthana 2 touched my heart today (Dec 16th 2007)

Raghava Lawrence, brought his trust kids (who could have ilai maraivu kayaga hid their oonam) and gave a wonderful performance.

Marans should give a bulk of amount, if possible, from the Sun Foundation.

Otherwise, the boring judges Meena and "That Picker guy" are replaced with Raghava Lawrence, Mumtaz & "Someone".

Not bad!

Bad experience with Storrz.com

Recently, owing to tight work, I ordered soem items from Storrz.com (Bangalore based) and found very bad old stock of Farafella delivered. Inspite of repeated reminders, nothing has happened to date.. With insects in the packets, we had to throw that away (could nto retain, as other food stuff will spoil). I wasnt so sure how others felt on being cheated.

They are also tricking customers to use a Rs 50 coupon, to sell these bad stuff.

They might have good intentions of running an online store, but others beware.

They better replace stuff.

10 good stocks, a friend says.

Sanghvi Movers
3i Infotech
Bharati Ship
Patel Eng
Opto Circuit
Everest Kanto
IOB
Bartronics
PVR
Sintex

I am not responsible for any investment losses. If you gain, its all mine! Ha Ha!

Om Shanti Om - Movie is not good

It is pure marketing effort like Shivaji, the movie Om Shanti Om is made a hit. It cost my family Rs 1200, for 4, with tickets plus popcorn & drinks + travel. Not worth it!

Shady pick up of a novel, and a rehash of a Tamil Movie - old one - Adhe Kangal. Terrible.

Bollywood needs to work on the stories and the right mix.

Deepika P comes as a model. Not a bright star, but a star with skimpy outfits. Bad! I dont know what to say.

Only the villain actor Arjun Rampal, has done well.

Abroad jobs calling again!

Got an interesting call in the evening, from someone in the industry on exploring options Abroad.

USA visa problems and bcoz of that people are exploring Europe for business. Multiple options available now.

Any pointers on savings etc? What about schooling for kids? Mid-year admissions or worth waiting till end of March 08?

I was told 5000 Euros a month, minimum savings is one best option (five times!). Also family would love to live in Germany or France for few years (at least till 8th std of my daughter -2014, before the career options stick in - for studies and one good school).

Just contemplating.

ICL has a good start!

Happened to watch a part of the match at <place> Airport, before I boarded the flight back to Bangalore.

Was seeing it online on my handheld, thanks to MSN & Zee Sports. Not bad.Thanks.

Inzi did a great job. Mumabi Champs are to improve, on the slow pitch.

Kapil Dev and proved that BCCI has a proper competetitor. Good Luck to all.

Koffee with Anu December 1st 2007 (Mr & Mrs Srikanth)

Lousy!
Clearly shows that they dont have any proper guests and always falling into the low life cinema guys, who made a fun of marraige as an institution. All money, honey!
Why doesnt Star Vijay change the host, I am the next best choice! (I can!)
The guests can be from various success parts of life.... Now Gujarat elections are on, so pick up a Tamil family living there and get their mind, and also ask those lakhs of Gujarati's living in Tamilnadu/Worldwide, on that topic.

Candidates Frustration after Interviews

I had a peculiar event happen at work, in terms of a frustrated candidate on not being offered getting back at us.
Recently I had found a resume for a Technical Manager on a portal, and spoke to the candidate about the exciting opportunity directly, as the recruiters, do a shoddy job at it, who dont give me confidence. Salary was not discussed by me, and I ensured that the opportunity was convincing enough for the candidate to have a look in at my co. This inspite of the candidate having the habit of changing companies for more money.
Workplace is excellent, and I love working here. I loved what I saw and liked it, and that is the reason I have joined this place moving from Chennai. You must have read from earlier postings that I didnt take a big raise to join here, just the cost of living adjustment. Now I am spending 15K more, and after tax that is taken care. I have no issues if someone gets paid more than me, who work under me for some time. But there is a problem, if there is no recognition for the hard efforts that have been put in for long time.
We have been having issues of hiring managers lately.... because of various reasons. I would rather not list it, but call it a jinx.
Next I asked my lousy recruiter, a chamchagiri, who manages to be a spy in the company with the habit of BCCing mails to the management etc and earns without doing proper work, who is always found browsing the net, studying for his MBA and attending to his personal errands, vehicles fixing and long smoke/tea/lunch breaks, to do a followup and ensure the candidate turnsup at office for interview. He was not given a raise, and he walked into my office one day, saying that he is not happy, probably assuming that I was rejecting a raise for him, without knowing that the MD fixes salary even for the sweeper in the company.

I fixed an interview one time, and the candidate turnsup another time. Also that recruiter didnt bother to come in to work early, even after fixing the time of interview causing the first frustration of the candidate.
Next the candidate walks into my office and as usual I give a warmest welcome, ensuring the HR person accompanying him knows about it, make him comfortable, shake hands and the candidate does something unwanted. He pulls a chair, even before offered a seat, being unprofessional, and sits, and pulls out his ringing mobile and attends the call saying that he is struck in traffic and would reach office in 30 minutes. Probably, something urgent at his workplace and most likely, he had made up his mind about our co. etc.
I kept my cool, and also ensured my job is to interview the candidate, and making a note of his attitude.
Then I started explanation about the job description in brief, and asked his basic qualification (he happens to be a Mech engineer) and I asked about his interest in the industry and type of products he wanted to work with. I also asked his CTC as the shoddy recruiter has not filled in the form, and he replied saying that I am making X Lakhs, and I have already got a offer for 65% more and I have told to the shoddy recruiter and he said that is not a problem, we can offer more. I was shocked and took few seconds to get my composure. Then I replied back saying, saying "for e.g., a person working under me ; designation; can make more money, that is not a problem, but even before interviewing anything, you are asking for salary. Thats a problem. Sorry!". He immediately gets up, and said I want to leave and left.
I felt very unhappy, wrote my interview comments, and went to the MD and told him about this. Also asked him, what he would do in this situation. He said he would have asked him to leave. I expected an email from him to the recruiter, in a totally different way about the incident for rejecting. (Later MD ends up getting the frustration email from the candidate, BCCed by the shoddy recruiter.)
Then with the experience of my designation; manager having a bad experience, in getting a negative feedback email of rejecting a candidate addressed to me, saying so bad about him, but I knew that candidate was just getting back at my person for rejecting, but I trusted my manager's integrity.
So much for so many things for being in the IT industry.

Koffee with Anu - 17th Nov 2007 (Kannamoochi Yenada)

It started with Nakkal of Sathyaraj. He is too good. The vazhum Periyar, is great.
Radhika was stiff, not communicable by Anu. Well it could be a problem of Anu.
I dont understand how Radhika manages Radaan, Acts in movies, Serials etc and finds time for family. Hats off!
Even though the film is a dud as per critics, it is made to sound that it is great by Priya - the director. I laughed at the way the camera woman, said something about Priya being the great etc. Lousy Lady!
Prithivraj is useless as a promotion person for the film, and he was giggling a la Aishwarya Rai, and always interested in talking about the neroine - Sandhya. Well that's how one sells.
Thanks to Simbu, these gimmicks of promoting the movie does work.
My plan of Billionaire for a day! is still on.

Oct 28th, 2007 Kalaignar TV Maanada...Mayilada...

In Kalaignar TV Maanada...Mayilada. Exchange round (while dancing, men dressed as women and vice-versa) on 28th Oct 2007 was Superb!

Rajkanth  was the best, next comes George! Nice!

This is one nice program on change of sexes, which is handled so badly in Thiruvalar & Thirumathi on Sun TV.

Well what to say, all programs are copying each other, and hashed of US & UK programs. But well done!

Great going Sat TV...

Koffee with Anu (Anuradha Sriram & Priyamani)

The program on October 27th was nice, with Anuradha Sriram & Priyamani, coming in planned matching skyblue color dress.
They were very polite in their demeanor, and I see good changes in the way Anu handles the guests. Better now!
I have seen Anuradha Sriram (both) and Priyamani in airports and other shopping areas & restaurants, and they sounded the same with no artificiality. My wife liked both of them! Male Gaze?
Little bit of Guru things on Deva by Anuradha was not needed as she was made to sign double entendere songs.
On the other hand Priyamani was riding on the success of Paruthiveeran, a classless act. Nice!. I hope she doesnt end up behaving like Padmapriya, which other attitude issues etc. I wish her to get a national award!
Good Luck to both of them, and a nice program after the much hyped Jodi No 1 Season 2 (which was a drab - where Yugendran & wife were best).

Obituary - My Dad Mr.Meenakshisundaram - October 5th, 2007

My dad Mr Meenakshisundaram (Son Of Mr Sankaran Chettiar of Timmarayanpalayam, near Mettupalayam) passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 5th 2007, Friday. (in the sleep). He was 69 and nearing the 70th birthday. He was cremated the same day. The last rites were performed, on October 10th Wednesday at Nandavanam, Mettupalayam.

For the last 5 years he was retired. He was into Hosiery business at Tiruppur, Tamilnadu, INDIA.

It is a big loss for us and now my brother & family will take care of my mom. My sisters live in the same town, so no issues, they can meet often.

He is survived by his 3 younger brothers and 4 younger sisters. He has been taking care of them from the age of 17, as my Grand Father had passed away in Kotagiri during 1952. My Grand Ma had passed away at the age of 80, 5 years ago.

I have been sort of detached from the family for the last 17+ years after college and work, but every decision I make in career or business or investment, he has been guiding me in every step of the way.

We dont know what he was sufferring from. Mostly it could have been cancer in his lungs. He has been loosing weight regularly from November 2006 (60 to 51). He was using Bromide inhaler - someone predicted Asthma/Bronchitis. His Oxygen flow was perfect, but they couldnt do the biopsy - for the tumour that was found in the scan outside of Trachea, as he was very weak and not recommended for the anasthetic. He was a smoker from young days and had given it up about 5 years ago.

He has been to Kasi and Rameswaram in the last couple of years as he had wished.

Performance and Service in Private sector

Few people have the mentality that they can work aroudn the same way in Private sector, that they have seen around in governement sector. I am a person who has moved from govt. co to a private one.

Nobody accepts drunk co-workers in Private sector.

Just handling a small team, which has a team leader, does not constitute major work as a Manager.

People have to ensure that they get the job done for the money being paid. Just marking the time, alone will not help. Better find a job elsewhere.

Just by not accepting the final offer with details, but the offer on accepting to make a mark in the private sector will not help.

When there is a 3 months notice for all the people in the company in the management cadre, and not accepting that in principle, does not constitute sub-ordination.

You have to respect seniors. Without that you cannot survive in the Private sector.

JODI No 1 (Sept 29th, 2007)

Hats off to Simbu, in making the eliminated candidates mother (addressing her aunty) to make her talk openly.
As any program, it is obvious like last time, Prithivraj and Uma Riyas are planned and destined to win. They might bring in a drame, to eliminate them, and get them back in the wild card round.
Please remove Sangeetha (Sorry to my wife's friend, who is sister of Sangeetha) and get back Ramya Vamsi.

Koffee with Anu (Sept 29th with KKK Team)

Boring!
Any is running out of ideas.
StarTV (R) is too finding tough to get interview candidates.
Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal team, was totally boring. I didnt understand what the mission statement was.... other than these guys claimed themselves popular! Gee!
I am worried about talent of Anu.
Mail me you comments.

Koffee with Anu (Murali and Kathir)

Koffee with Anu (Murali and Kathir)

Murali narrated a touching episode, otherwise, boring.

Kathir doesnt have speaking skills.

Anu should talk to her husband, to learn how to talk to males.

Job Offers and Revision in salaries

Take a cue in the market.

Dollar is falling, and all companies, that are growing are under stress. I have seen peoiple taking a paycut, to join a good company.

New joinees have to be very careful, by meeting their obligations and ensuring that they are satisfied at any costs. You have to do a lot to ensure that happens, and if you just sit idle and wait for things to happen, you will fail miserably.

Just marking time at work, will not help. Taking long lunches, and long breaks and always on mobile calls does not help. You have to stretch beyond your ways and get the work done. If you dont understand the work, ask. People pay you lots of money to get hmm.. lots of work done.

Money isnt everything. Prove yourself for a period of 6 months, before you ask for a raise.

Most of the growing copmanies offer stock options after a certain period with the company. For example at the time of confirmation. There is a vesting period you have to understand. You will have to hold the stock option for a period, when they are available to be bought or sold, if you stay with the company. You cannot determine, when they can be bought or sold.

Behave with the management, and just because someone is friendly dont take advantage of it.

Muralitharan bigger than Bedi

Masters of spin and woes, could have been the apt title for the article Mukul Kesavan wrote.

Read here on Cricinfo More than Muralitharan; bigger than Bedi

My comment is also there....

I think that Murali is correct when he says he is within the legal limits of chucking as per ICC rules. Bedi is also correct when he says according to him he consider's Murali's action similar to chucking.

There is no contradiction here as I will explain with an example. A person has parked his car regularly for last 10 years at acertain place. Today Police put up a "No Parking " board. What was legal until yesterday will now be illegal. Similarly, ICC by declaring a limit on arm bending has made Murali's action legal. Let's however allow Bedi to retain his stance based on human eye instead of the lab tests. I think Murali should not have sought legal action but rather ignored the comment of Bedi. Similarly no body has commented on Arjuna Ranatuga's response which is more defamatory than Bedi's statement.

Life at Bangalore!

Indeed it is great and exhilarating on the choice of living in Bangalore.

I moved to Bangalore South on Bannerghatta Road, the upcoming residential area! Have to travel 15Kms to Central / Airport.

For 2 months I have been shuttling from and to Chennai, where the family was.... and my wife was finishing up her exams.

In fact tried all modes of transport Air (Deccan, Kingfisher, Spicejet, Paramount and Indian) and Train ... for weekend travel. I felt cost wise no one can beat Air Deccan at about 1100+ for a trip and timewise and convenience by Paramount.

Kids are loving the weather, 4 degrees cooler than Chennai and cold in the mornings and unexpected rains!

But I can see the strains of cos tof lviing on the higher side. In Chennai you are used below MRP 5% or 10%.

So other than paying up 5K PM for the house extra of similar kind, the other expenses would be like, say 5K more.

So if you are negotiating salary, keep this in mind! (after tax). Only thing you might be happy about is Autos, run with meter!

If they think you (a friend) are not of value, they dont call at all.... dont share in their success.... or get support.

    Shares and KP System

The Native's purpose was a short term investment, less than 1 year. In such cases one has to examine the 5th cusp sub. If this Sub lord is the principal
Significator of 2 or 6 or 11 then the native can make profits in the periods
Running at the time of the question. However, one cannot determine the amount of the profits likely to be made.

In the case under consideration, the 5th cusp sub lord is Venus. The 4 step
Houses strongly signified are as under:
    Venus          :
Stl of Ven Sat : 8-2
    Sbl of Ven Sat :
    Stl of Sat Ket : 9(Sun 11)
                   : stl of ketu sun:11

(When Rahu/Ketu becomes the Star Lord, it not only gives results of the
Owner of its house of residence, but also of its own starlord)

Here Venus has become the strong signifier of 2 and 11. So the native will
Earn profits in the Short term investment. If the houses signified are 5 or 8
Or 12 then indications are No profits in short term.

In such cases one has to check up whether there is indication of Long term
Profits. For this one has to check the 12th cusp sub-lord.  If this sub lord strongly signifies  2-6-or 11 then profits in long term investment are forseen

Now we have to determine, when the promised profits will materialise. This has to be fixed by the DBA s.

At the time of the querry, Sun Bhukty in the Dasa of Sun was upto 2 dec 2006. Let us chech up the significance of sun: This is as under:

    SUN             :--
    STL JUP         : 11-1-4
                      CON VEN(11-6)
    SBL SUN          :-
    STL JUP         : 11-1-4
                      CON VEN(11-6)

Here the Dasa, and Bhukty Lord has become the significator of 6 and 11 also of the helpful 1st house. So this Dasa, Bhukty will be fruitful

Since Sun does not signify the 2nd House(wealth), the Sun bhukti will not be fruitful. After this the Moon Bhukty is upto 3 rd June 2007. The signification of Moon is as under:

    MOON            9
    STL SUN         11
    SBL SUN         ---
    STL JUP :      11-1-4
                      CON VEN(11-6)

Here  the Moon Bhukty indicates 1,6,11 so it is fruitful. The native immediately bought 2000 shares of the company.

Now to determine, in which Antara, the native will realise the profit, we must find out the which planets signify strongly the 2nd house.
In the chart, Ven,Mars, Rahu, JUO, Sat and Merc ,the 6 planets strogly signify the 2nd house. So, as per experience, and Guruji's teachings, that NODES are stronger than planets, I chose the Rahu Antara. This period was from 28 dec 2006 to 25 Jan 2007. It is during this period that the native will realise the profits.

In between, having checked that he was running a good time, the native purchased some more shares of the company.

He sold all the shares, in lots between 2nd Jan and 11th Jan 2007, and earned a decent profit.

If one wants to find out the further date of Sooksma, one can certainly attempt it. The native got the max profit in the period 9 th t0 13 th Jan 2007, becaue the Merc had become the strongest significator of 2,6,10,11 houses.

    Virginia Tech ShootOut

It is very sad and I feel sorry about the shootout and deaths. 2 Indians died in this mess.

    (1) Prof. G V Loganathan, my alma matter PSG Tech alumnus (plus IIT and Purdue) from Coimbatore....

I hope his parents passports come in fast today, and the US Consulate at Chennai gives the emergency visa for his parents and close relatives (brothers and sisters) to attend the Hindu ceremonies, which is important in a way for their mental peace. God Bless America.

    (2) Minal Panchal, student from Mumbai... delayed confirmation, as none verified itseems....

I hope her parents and relatives, who are already in USA, gets there on time, to take care of them.

Amavasya is always tough mentally for people and relations. This has happened then. (Tough Luck!) Even water borne, natural calamities bound to happen in Full Moon days...

In Virginia Tech, in 1990 I had my MS admission there, sends me jitters even now!

The other news about a kid in the sewer, almost for a day and negligence of govt. in Ghaziabad is heartbreaking.

I am trying to get the art of ESP and I got the number 33 when I heard the Virginia Tech shootout, which was the death figure. When I saw the news of Ghaziabad kid, I had the vision 6 feet.... might be his body would be found 6 feet from where he fell. I hope the authorities dig the 17 KM drain and find.....

May the souls rest in peace!

    English Cricket Debacle today

Found a nice quote of Cricinfo.... Wisden... (copyright?)

"I've heard that the English Cricket Board are making a help-line available for fans who are disappointed with the performance of the English team. The help-line number is 1800 10 10 10. That's 1800, won nothing, won nothing, won nothing."

    A Can of COKE

A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday. The  autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis. Rat urine contains toxic and deadly substances It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them.  The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned. A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i .e.) full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident. Please forward this message to all the people you care about. (I JUST DID!)

    T
o elaborate further, drinking canned items itself is dangerous because of the inherent hazards involved in the material, unhygenic storage of cans before they are filled etc.  Therefore totally avoid using any canned drink or food items to save you from the food poisoning.  I  USE COKE AS A PESTICIDE TO WARD OFF FUNGAL INFECTION OF MY PLANTS AT THE ROOF GARDEN. It works good because the coke contains acids of 3 kind which can do harm to the bones and stomach in the long run.

Sick Companies, Small mistake and the power of FEAR

You have been reading about my debacle on to move from a Chennai based co. to another one.

The mental torture apart, a small mistake done by me inadvertently, was like shooting myself in the foot, side stepping, causing me further anxiety and let me say FEAR and trouble, other than serving the long notice period.

Sick Companies, Small mistake and the power of FEAR, causing me to pay up the cost of notice period, apart from agreeing upon a older relieving date based on my silly mistake, genuine and honest, to stop facing further consequences. Tough luck! Loss of salary, experience and mental peace. This is IT world!

I happy on the other side, a blessing in disguise, that there is a high possibility that I might revive Sharon Software Systems http://www.sharonsoftsys.com , if I cannot move and hopefully work on a new product and try my luck again!

People who are willing to take risk in the venture, please mail me at my name at hotmail.

Koffee with Anu - Director Cheran and Navya Nair (April 14th 2007)

Director Cheran and Navya Nair (April 14th 2007)

The show was well done, what I watched after a long time, as a Tamil New year Special on Star Vijay.

Anu was at her best, with good dress and getting little plumpier, might be very happy with her husband.... may be... no kids I think! (if you read this, do mail me)

She has not cut down on being flirtatious with the guests, including over phone with Prithviraj on the phone.

Cheran is getting younger day by day at 45, and as the lady Mrs.Selvam(?) asked.... also her daughter requested him to do some comedies. Yet he is dry.... It was news to me that he walked away being a Associate Director of movie Mahanadi, working with KS Ravikumar, but when the movie got released it was advertised as a movie done by Kamal (Sandhana Bharathi) himself?

Cheran explaining himself on his old days without food and other tough stories of life, without having Dad growing up... mother was shown washing vessels, while she gave interview, nice of her.... I would like to work with him in a movie. I have very high regards of him as a Director than an Actor.

In 2002 when Nandanam, a Malayalam movie was released with Prithviraj (18 then, and at 22 with Mozhi being very great)and Navya Nair, she was 16 then itseems, passed 10th class. So now at 21, graduated well with Mayakannadi. Looks FAT.

Anu will get squashed at her juice delicacy shop.... with guests.... er......

Cinema guys are one sick bunch... on what I read from JuV and Nakheeran.

    Airtel Super Singer Junior

On Star Vijay, Airtel Super Singer Junior , is a such a lousy, disgusting show, that make one heart cry!

Yesterday I was watching where the three musketeers (judgees) were rejecting left and right

There was one guy they rejected, was amazing Singer on Pogo. Nice judging, Stupid.

Looks like parents are torturing the kids to the core, very bad. They should do it naturally....

This shows should go off air soon!

Narayana Murthy for President? No Way!

I apologize, if I have hurt sentiments of anyone!

Well facts are facts, and the bare minimum....

    (1) Socialists cannot become Presidents. Zilch! Can he take the acid test on not being a benami?
    (2) A person who bribes of donation, with 10 million to Carnegie Mellon, should not get this job.
    (3) A person who fights for English and better amenties, but support certain class of politicos hardliners, and only vocal on Kannadigas (personally olle kelasa!)..... supporting only Karnataka all in the IT industry.... tough chance to digest.
    (4) Making a company while working for Patni and TELCO, no way.... that might happen in this job too!
    (5) Openly asked for the Ambassador post for USA!
    (6) When JAC did the IT STPI story in Bangalore, NRN claims he did it, lying is dangerous for this job.
    (7) Withdraws large amount of money using his stocks, ADRs, dividends etc, hard earned money by toiling software coolies, working for 100s of hours in a week, while getting paid for 40 only! (refer to my previous post)
    (8) Make his wife President of Infosys Foundation, a private body NGO, with Public Money, Shareholders blood!
    (9) Does not tolerate other IT co's to come up well!
    (10) Lied openly on Sibulals job status with SUN as sabbatical. I have had a good laugh with my ex boss, who happened to that guys boss.
    (11) Just bcoz Time group says that he is fit, sorry! he must not try this. (FM might have been nervous to attend the award ceremony, of thinking of being unseated, but not his chap!)
    (12) Hardliners will not agree.... Infosys and Rekha Maximowitch's story is still not forgotten.
    Finally
    (13) He has sent his kids to study abroad, using money power, forget the man who doesn't like India. God Forsake!

Again, all are hearsays and no malice intended. I have no inhibitions to become a President of India, being over 35 now!

    Sick Companies and Relieving Letter

My father used to say that people like Marwadis (sorry, I didn't mean to!) will take interest even from Yama for the life they have lived, because he takes it from them.

I have come across such companies whom I got associated with a number of times, including the current one.

The advertise so much, but they hardly care for employees.... their website is full of poop of taking care of employees.

Once the employee decided to leave, what the heck stops them from relieving fast? Obviously few things done by the employer would have made the employee go away from them isnt it? Sicko's dont realise it. They are after getting land at cheaper prices from government in illegal ways, double bill clients, hire freshers taking 75000 rupees illegally thru placement consultants, provide no training or career enhancements, give the best benefit only to the old timers, who have been with them from beginning (sold their souls), provide no decent hikes, forget about employees even in certain important farewell meetings, irritates to the core.... try to hire employees at one level below from previous, promise them onsite posting but don't provide giving vaguest reasons, handle them unceremoniously at the time of exit, forget the old adage of HR that "if you can't make an employee productive, at least make employable (for the sake of hiring, wasting both their times...)",  in the name of flexi-time make the employees slog for peanuts like double than the weekly 40 hours to 80 hours flouting labour laws, while the seniors ask five star chefs to cook for them at office time (Sickos eat hot 5* masala dosai at office time!)....

Relieving letter? No way, pay up 2 months gross, err.... serve 2 months notice till we get a replacement.... it is like living a life of a bonded labor.

There are ways to take care of such people. I am going to print my own relieving letter (just kidding!) or generate my own relieving email (just kidding on Privex). Letterheads are available from the same third party hirers, who share their cut for getting gullible fresher employees....(I am told!) I can also publish such contact no's of agents and company insiders. I can get rid of the company's dirty  CFO in one single email to SOX Compliance Cell in the USA (whistleblower).

This SOX compliance and US government will not keep quiet on just registering the largest private Indian company, just by paying the rulers few millions and flout all the laws of labor. SEC will not keep quiet, shares of their company would be beaten down to death (fallen 50% already)! All the supporters of you know who, will be taken care by USA (I think they have invested in this company thru their shares as the Indian security agency says).
I love working with satisfaction than a job.

    27% Quota Stayed by SC

    27% Quota Stayed by SC

    A good thing to do!

Please note that I am not against social upliftment.

What is interesting to note is, the creamy layer
exemption and the caste based data based on 1931
    census was the reason cited.

Who deserves the most (quota and relief)? This is
    unanswered. Constitutional amendment is needed.

    What government can do?

    (1) exclude creamy layer, but provide scholarships for
    them or loan.
    (2) for a given family, only 2 people can get
    reservation
    (3) do the social security number system, along with
caste for each and every individual in India. I can
revive Sharon Software Systems, and get a product done
for 10 crores, and get it done for whole of India in a
year, 30 states for the sum equal to NREGS (Rs 100 per
day for unemployed to collected 100 peoples data and
    upload).

    Total People 1050000000
    Data per Day/person 100
NREGS unemployed people per state for data collection
    10000
    States 30
    Total Data Per Day 30000000
    Days to do collection 35
    Project days 365

NREGS Salary Cost is 10000*365*100 = 365.5 crors
Cost of 300000 Laptops at Rs 30000 each = 900 crores
    Server Cost at 1500000 * 30 = 4.5 crores
Total project cost at about 1300 crores.

Now with a population of 105,00,00,000 in India and
growing, this is fast needed, even to implement the
social security scheme. The companies can be charged
at 5% of the basic salary (you get the right to send
out a person = layoff, giving 3 months notice) and
also the employee pays 5% giving a nest egg for
government to invest in good bluechips/PSU stocks and
generate returns, and pay upto 18 months relief at
66.66% and rest of the time at 50% till he/she gets a
job. If he or she doesnt get a job in 3 years,
government should retrain the person below 55 and post
in a job providing the acceptable salary, at 50% earned 3 years before. Medicare can also be covered in this. This is doable! I can get it done for India, provided the retirement age is acceptable at 60.

    Multiple offers and dilemma

    Multiple offers and dilemma

Definitely, things are tough, if you have made up your mind to join a small company as a VP with a decent jump and another offer comes in... Dilemma... things might get complicated if one more offer comes in, as we end up talking to multiple parties before the firm and final offer comes in.

Also you have to look into the matter of the larger company and living in the same place too! Very seriously... no shifting, no school hassles, no pain.... (but the gain is what is looked at... )

Yes matters gets complicated if, the new offer is same or better from the first offer,  accepts all the notice period, plus the sign on bonus of 2 months gross salary, and ensures that your long term on site trip with family would be taken care for atleast one year.... of course with 10 times more stock options on signing on day!

So much for the IT industry issues and the run along with it. I would feel very dejected to say NO to anyone who has offered me. Since IT industry is so networked, and everyone knows everyone, it would be tough when you cross paths later.

I still feel and laugh at the interview question (first one almost) "Why do you want to change your job?"  while they were after me at the right fit! (with the baiters/consultants running around)

Always I do tell that I dont plan anything beyond 5 years.... Also, may be, I might revive Sharon Software Systems later.

Let us wait and see, one more day to decide! All are subject to getting the relieving letter on time, with no worries. But both companies wouldnt know that I have already quit....(mentally)

Fun City Chennai is a Death Trap for Kids

Fun City Chennai is a Death Trap for Kids

No safety, no First Aid Kit, and hundreds of kids allowed to play in a small area!

Something fishy and wrong and collision with local government is happening.

Yesterday we went with my kids to City Centre the new place for food and fun in Chennai. Obviously the fame is catching up, but without any safety precautions. The place is doomed and will be taken care!

After a meal in one of the restaurants, my kids insisted on playing at Funcity, who charge at exorbitant rates... 20 rupees for a 2 minutes game and 80 rupees for 1 hour in the congested death trap (slide and balls play area).

No attendant (with due respect, they dont have locals for managing - I dont know why?) was actively taking care of kids.

Since my son is under 5, we wanted  to be along with him, just to ensure. The flat faced lady comforted me that nothing wrong will happen and they will take care of kids well. My kids played for 10 minutes, and some rowdy kids - too small to take care, pushed around and my son fell down, with a big scratch on his face. (tip of the nose). I rushed there, and in vain, found no first aid kit. (obviously someone is taking bribe and letting the safety norms go for a toss!). No cotton and we had to use of hankies and take him to the nearest hospital. Luckily nothing serious and I hope the scar heals fast. The surgeon at CSI Kalyani Hospital nearby said, there could be a little scar....Now there will be mental tension and we have to run around, that too with his annual exam time!

When all this was happening, the manager did a first thing, all managers would envy off! He asked the flat faced lady whom I was angry with, to run away from the scene. (Note - there was business going on as usual, without first aid kit, but collecting money only!).

I wish someone from government take a sincere note of this and close down the establishment ASAP.

I live in Gopalapuram and proximity to the ruling party folks. Things will get messy! If it had been USA I would have sued them for a billion, not that I will not do it now!

My new Indian Cricket team (a message to Mr Pawar and Vengsarkar)

After the debacle with Srilanka (everyone has it once a while), Indian cricket team needs a makeover.

Even if they make it to Super 8, thanks to Bermuda on Sunday, Sachin, Dhoni and Harbhajan gets the axe in all matches.

    First thing

Sack Rahul Dravid as captain (but retain in team, The Wall) and re-instate Sourav Ganguly as Captain. Good for India for next 2 years.

Send out Sachin Tendulkar, even God needs retirement. (my son handles the bat well, just kidding ;-) ). No wonder his son says Dhoni is best, Wow!

Dhoni gets the boot. Let us give him a break, back for Australian trip.

Now Harbhajan magic is over after finger injury, with 5 runs plus an over and 36 plus a wicket in 50 balls, Ramesh Powar is the best bet. Anil Kumble should have played the Srilanka match than clicking pictures. Swansong in one-day cricket for him. Bye bye, owner of Candlelight software.

Robin Uthappa needs some more match practice so he stays.

Dinesh Kaarthick should be no 1 wicketkeeper, it was sad to see him cry when India lost.

Vengsarkar and team have done his best (taking care of state/caste/religion quotas, personal interests (Abhijit Khale was right!)), but he should have had Suresh Raina and Mohd. Kaif in the team. He did for Sehwag, but he needs a break too! Let him come back for Australian trip.

What is Pathan doing? Get his brother too!

Also Badrinath and Venugopal Rao should be given a serious try, they are very good fielders too!

Where the heck is Ishant Sharma? he will play soon.... I want that Abid Ali from Kashmir on the trip to England.

    God Bless All!

So others stay around with all the salary and incentives, clubbed with performance.

Finally, no more individual advertisement contracts, only team contracts..... Good for team India.

South Africa Versus Australia today (March 24th 2007)

Looks like Australia would walk away with honors. I call this class match.

The time is favourable for them, while inserting South Africa to bat, and chase it comfortably.

    Lets wait and watch.

    Will Bermuda win against Bangladesh?

Bermuda versus Bangladesh on 25th March 2007

    Will Bermuda win against Bangladesh?

    No 6 at 10.13 AM  - Chennai

Moon with a connection of Venus in 12th, favourite pastime/game result.

Also Sun in the Lagna says that it is something of a challenge to intelligence, and the outcome may be just based on planets.

Asc and 11th sublords are Jupiter, which says YES.

Looking at Asc, 6th and 11th, there is Ju and Ve connection reflecting the question in mind, along with Moon.

    Outcome timings....

Venus in transit in 12th. Victory for team in question, with help of Saturn which is in 3rd, with a connection of Jupiter and Venus. Clearly shows that some miracle or help is to happen.

Venus is in full swing under Jupiter influence from 18.01 PM to 1.18 AM.

Sun is in action till 3.30 AM, which clearly says that intelligence prevails.

So what I can deduce is match should be over by 1.18AM.

Bermuda should win the toss and bowl first and restrict Bangladesh to less than 150 under 40 overs, and chase the target before 1.18 AM, in 35 overs.

    =======================================================
Yesterday I looked at the RPs of the toss at 6.30 PM IST and could deduce...

India would win and bowl against Srilanka, restrict to 250 of the opposition (still finding matches and scores with RPs)

Match will be over by 2.50AM next day, which says either India looses chasing or target is met.

Moon was in action will 10 PM only, clearly shows that the initial benefit gained is lost.

Saturn was in action which clearly showed that there was malicious intent to favour opposition.

India beaten by SriLanka on March 23rd, 2007

Let us hope more contracts come in for Dhoni, Sachin and Ganguly.

    Hats off India.

    Bookies love India.

    On Accepting Offer and Joining

Life cannot be very easy as to get an offer, other than to convince on the job to be done and the value.

Negotiation is one part. Very tough, so you end up compromising on what you expected and other offers in hand.

Without sign on bonus (at least 2 months gross salary), no one would join very fast, in short notice, than finish the notice period (or else you end up paying right?). The person would use his balance vacation, and pay for the rest of the period. Still that is lot of money!

The person moving from one company to another, either based on his wishes and promotions/positions, the neglect of current company on salary and positions/promotions and money (at least 40% more or 25% after tax than current take home)... no one will want to jump form the cushy job. ESOPs are not biting carrots as the stock market can go up or down, no guarantee.

Bill Gate's 11 Rules of Life

Bill Gate's 11 Rules of Life

Rule 1: Life is not fair get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect You to accomplish something
BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of
high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car
    phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till
    you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your Grandparents had a different word for burger
    flipping they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault,
so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as
boring as they are now. They got that way from paying
your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you
talk about how cool you thought you are. So before you
save the rain forest from the parasites of your
parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your
    own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners
and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they
have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as
MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This
doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in
    real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't
get summers off and Very few employers are interested
in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your Own
    time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life
people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go
    to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up
    working for one.

    7 ways to stay motivated

You know what it's like. You set yourself a goal,
something you want to achieve. You are excited and
ready to take on the world, and then a few months
later you can't even be bothered to spend 10 minutes
working towards achieving it. Well welcome to being
human! It is so easy to go from excitement to complete
apathy but there are things you can do to ensure you
stay motivated towards your goal and following are
    seven great ones!

    1. Is Your Reason WHY Large Enough?

When I wanted to lose weight setting a goal to look
great in clothes was not big enough, what didn't help
was the fact that I loved who I was and what I looked
like, but my health had begun to show signs of being
affected by my excess weight and this is the WHY I
used to ensure I stayed on track. I started with 6
weeks of no diary, no wheat and red meat only once a
week. Do you think I needed a big why to stay
committed to such a regime??!! I knew that health is
my true wealth. Having been unwell for 6 months and
hardly able to walk had taught me that without my
health my goals were useless. So maintaining a healthy
body that would allow me to enjoy the fulfillment of
my goals was the big WHY that kept me on track.

Stop and think about your reason WHY? What reason is
big enough to keep you motivated at times when you
want to give up and/or give in?

    2. Create a visual and emotional image of what you
    want

Writing your goals down is an essential tool but not
always enough to keep focused. Writing your goals down
and having a visual image of you completing that goal
adds fuel to the motivational fire. Writing goals
down, having a visual image of your completed goal AND
connecting this image with your emotions is the power
of 3 that will ensure your motivation remains high. At
any point during the day, or at any time when you are
feeling in need of encouragement, you can simply stop,
close your eyes, see your goal and evoke all the
emotions achieving that goal holds for you. Nothing is
    more powerful!

    3. Questions to ask before, during and after!

It is important to know not only why you are doing
something but also WHAT. What achieving this goal will
provide for yourself and your family. It is easy to
believe that what you want is to make a million, but
for many it is the lifestyle and the time freedom that
this money has the potential to provide that will be
    the real motivation.

Spend time asking yourself questions that will help
you identify what achieving your goal will provide.
    Questions such as:

    •What will it bring me?

•What will it do for me, my family, and/or friends?

•What kind of lifestyle will I be able to have?

•What sacrifices will I need to make?

•What will be the impact on my current routine?

•What will be the impact on my family?

•What outcome do I want to achieve?

•What contributions will I be able to make

Motivation and staying motivated is easy when you know
what the achievement of your goal will provide for you
and we only really lose motivation when we lose sight
of our goal or end result.

    4. Creating a visual representation of what you want

Keep the motivational fires burning by creating a
collage with the family of what your end result will
look like, or paint a picture, write a poem, sing a
song, or whatever creative endeavor excites you enough
    to complete it.

Whatever you create keep it in a place where you can
see it constantly, I remember listening to someone
talk about sticking a poster of making their first
100,000 on their ceiling so that as they woke up it
was the first thing they saw each morning, and the
last image in their mind before falling asleep.

Leave yourself reminders on your fridge door, on your
bathroom mirror, in your car. The more places you are
able to leave yourself little notes and reminders
about what you want to achieve the better. Doing this
will help your unconscious mind bring you the results
you desire, whilst also supporting you in staying
focused and motivated towards achieving your goal.

5.Get Support from people around you

Support from family and friends is important but also
consider what other support is available to you.
Books, mentoring, work colleagues, life coaching,
forums – these are all things that can support you as
you work towards achieving your goal. Also think about
WHO can support you in staying motivated, can you
buddy up with someone, do you have a boss or lecturer
who will be happy to help you keep accountable.

One thing I recommend is that you tell as many people
as you know about what you want to achieve, this has
the effect of keeping you motivated to complete your
goal because you have told so many people. However, a
word of caution is needed here because it is easy for
people to trample your dreams and fail to support you.
You must first pick and choose carefully those people
you know will want to support you, but also you must
gain enough inner personal strength to be able to
continue no matter what negative comments may come
    your way.

    6.Develop Inner Personal Strength

Ultimately, the person who will determine whether you
stay motivated and achieve your goal will be you. Your
thoughts will determine your behavior which determines
your results. Developing a strong inner personal
strength about your ability to achieve and your
ability to motivate yourself when you are in an
unproductive state of mind is essential. Being able to
see setbacks and failures as opportunities for
continued growth and upset and emotional turmoil as
opportunities to discover what you want and need, will
determine how you view life. One of the best ways to
inner personal strength is to read and listen to
audios that inspire and motivate you. Continued
learning is an essential part of being able to stay
    motivated.

    7. Support from Continued Learning

If you are going to need to learn new skills to ensure
you complete your goal then you it is a good idea to
identify what learning you will need to undertake as
early as possible. If you have planned out how you
will achieve your outcome then you will already be
aware of any areas where you need to strengthen your
skills or out source to others who will be able to
    fulfill what you need.

There is nothing worse than getting halfway towards
the completion of a goal and to be stopped because you
are not able to complete something because of lack of
knowledge and/or skills. This is a surefire way of
dampening your excitement and your motivation.

Make a list of what you can and can't do and who might
be able to help you. Knowing this in advance can help
you avoid getting frustrated because things aren't
getting done. If you are serious about developing your
personal and professional life then I recommend
getting yourself a Mentor or Life Coach, to ensure you
    stay on track.

You should also look at continued learning as it
relates to your own personal development, continuing
with your own personal development will ensure you are
able to work through set backs quickly and stay
    motivated.

Staying motivated when you are looking to achieve your
goals is essential for ultimate success. I have
provided you with seven practical ways to achieve
continued motivation and I recommend you use them all.
Some of them such as creating a collage will be
activities you perform occasionally, but others, such
as continuing your personal development will be a
continuous learning process. There is not one single
thing that will determine your success in staying
motivated but a combination of many, finding the
combination that is right for you will change from
goal to goal and will be an ongoing (fun filled)
    exploration.

What is the best way to compensate IT folks?

What is the best way to compensate IT folks? (Indian Context and can be extrapolated to other countries)

Before I suggest... think about this...

Lots of people talk of ESOPs and the value it generates, while fixing the IT salary package for a new hire.

Recently I had a nice chat with on HR guy, who was explaining that the notional gain is also included on the ESOPs provided over the vesting year in the annual salary.

The logic does not hold good at all.

Say for example the option is provided at Rs 40 and the current market price is 200, the notional gain is Rs 160, looks nice that after one year you are sure to get it. But think this, the market is in a high and taking example of HFCL dropping from Rs 2000 to Rs 20 in 3 months, you should not include.

Nothing is guaranteed other than the real salary!

    Suggestions

So here are the thumb rules of an IT package.. say the take home first, annual benefit next.

    Includes

    Basic
    HRA (plus any housing benefit)
    City Compensatory Allowance
    Special Allowance
Transport Allowance (Max as per tax benefits 800 without vehicle & 2000 with vehicle)
Variable Bonus (and any other form of Org Bonus, and mention the minimum guarantee sum on acceptable performance - written in clear terms, and whether payable Bi-Annual)
Retirals (PF, Guaranteed Superannuation irrespective of no of years of service)

    Dont include----

Gratuity = as this notional, can be written back in books, if a person leaves before 5 years.
Lunch and transport subsidy == as you might have the company in a far of place, and this is to motivate
Annual Gift - upto Rs 5000/- is allowed as expense, not FBT'ed.
ESOPs = notional gains are not guaranteed, what if the stock falls/nosedives? (Imagine this, Microsoft gave more options (doubled) once their stocks fell in 2001)
Annual vacation - this is the benefit of hard work and helps recharge
Sick Leave = unknown (family issues)
    Personal Leave = urgent matters.

    =====================================================================

So if you are offering someone from a fresher to a Senior level person, please ensure that the best take home salary in a month is provided. (including the relocation benefits fully - house shifting costs, with 2 trips with family to see house and then to move with stuff, 3-4 weeks hotel stay with food (cut HRA, if need be), school donations if any = can be added into joining bonus)

So make a spreadsheet comparing one item of the current salary got to what you can provide, and the industry norm is 30% hike easily on the monthly take home (after taxes). Also if you have "not used a IT service provider/consultant" to hire (direct from a jobsite) that person, then that 10% package benefit to be added on to this. Also if you feel that person is the "right fit", you can add 10% more... all after tax only.

Also the very important factor, "Joining bonus", a person might use his vacation to serve notice... so rather than just paying that, give a handsome joining bonus, equal to 2 - 3 months salary. (initial expenses are always big, you know, when you shift to a new place)

The annual package can be played around a bit, showing additional guaranteed benefits at the "Met Expectations level". Here both parties should agree on what they expect from each other. (if a small company expects the turnaround of a bigger co. in terms of technology and process, it goes hand in hand with clients, will not suit well, with a typical IT work time 9 to 9 on weekdays, and on call on weekends).

You can also mention based on the performance of the company, and the growth, the ESOPs (if provided) are to grow to a certain level, but not guaranteed!

Note, a person might feel very comfortable to join and all are happy.

But what if things don't work out, like he had actually replaced someone in the job, and the shortfalls by that person was not listed, being very vague, so an "exit option" also to be provided (HR folks know well about this card - putting the fear of fear of loosing a job in one person). Like 3 months notice, either side, after the first 6 months review/probation. Serious efforts to be made by both sides for first 6 months to fit well on the job. So a person will have had the chance to accustom to the job, and try to fit well in that time, with periodic reviews. Both have invested well enough, so make sure, all parties are happy. No hasty decisions, as it will affect both. 6 to 9 months would be a reasonable time, but may not look good on the resume of the candidate. So it is imperative that the employer helps him to succeed.

This stops jumping.... the decisions are made from family side, and trouble should not be given in any form. It is always the family first principle.

    What is AJAX?

    What is Ajax?

Ajax is a set of technologies being used together, just as "LAMP" is a shorthand referring to Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. But back to Ajax!

Ajax, which stands for Asynchronous Javascript And XML, is comprised of the following technologies:

    * HTML + CSS for presenting information
    * JavaScript for dynamically interacting with the information presented
    * XML, XSLT and the puzzlingly-named XMLHttpRequest object to manipulate data asynchronously with the Web server.

That sure doesn't make much sense to me, since HTML + CSS + JavaScript, at least, have been around since forever -- they're even the basis of my popular book Creating Cool Web Sites with HTML, XHTML and CSS.

The difference therefore is with the XML, eXtensible Markup Language, side of things, so let's focus on that. But first, if you've checked out and marveled at the drag-and-pan capabilities of Google Maps or the speedy self-contained table sorting capabilities of Gmail, you've seen Ajax in action.

So. So XML is the eXtensible Markup Language, an environment for consistently tagging and identifying information buried within Web pages, XSLT is basically a version of XML that's intended for transforming XML documents in-place (e.g., through database-type queries), and XMLHttpRequestor is the gracefully named set of application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow Web applications to transfer data with a Web server using the standard HTTP protocol. In a nutshell, this alphabet soup works together to allow JavaScript scripts to send data requests to the server and receive responses, all without having to load or reload a page. It's as if there's a hidden web browser / server interaction going on behind the scenes on a Web page you're viewing.

Want to learn more? Check out Ajax Matters, which is one of the primary reference sites for this rethinking of how users interact with Web sites.

My two cents on Ajax? The name may be rather goofy, but the result of applying the methodology is a quantum leap in Web interactivity. If you're a serious Web developer, Ajax is well worth studying and learning.
