1. General Introduction to Astrology

The sky of 360 degrees is divided equally into twelve zodiac signs of 30 degrees each and into twenty-seven constellations of 13 degrees and 20 minutes each. There are nine planets including two nodes, Rahu and Kethu. Each constellation has a lord called its star lord. As there are twenty-seven constellations and only nine planets to act as their star lords, three constellations have the same planet as star lord. Thus sky has a three-fold symmetry from star lord point of view and 0 degree to 120 degrees,120 degrees to 240 degrees and 240 degrees to 360 degrees have the same star lord structure.

2. K.P. system

We have twelve cusps. In K.P. system, the starting point of a cusp house is called its cusp. Ascendant is the first cusp and the first cusp house extends form the first cusp to the second cusp. Similarly, other cusps can be calculated up to the twelfth cusp, strictly following K.P. system and K.P. ayanamsa. These cusp houses represent different matters or events of our life. The cusp sublords and planetary sub lords play various roles in materialising events in our day-to-day life. Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti studied the conventional Vedic and Western astrological techniques and found that they are very good in explaining the past events, but often fail to predict the future matters. They fail to explain why twins sometimes exhibit different behavioural patterns, though they are born with only few minutes’ difference. Thus,he thought of dividing a constellation (longitude of 13 degrees 20 minutes) into nine subdivisions following Vinshottari system. He assigned to each division a lord, sequentially, starting with the star lord of the first division with the name of the star lord of the constellation. If the constellation having Sun as star lord is divided into nine sub divisions, then the order is: Sun,Moon, Mars,Rahu,Jupiter,Saturn,Mercury, Kethu and Venus. These subdivisions are called sub lords or simply, subs. In K.P. system, the transiting planet or the planet in the natal (birth)chart is the source to offer the result depending upon its nature, occupation and ownership of the cusp house. This planet (source) offers the matters (or events) signified by the houses owned and occupied by its star lord (or the lord of the constellation where it is transiting or is deposited in the natal chart). The sub lord is the final deciding factor, which votes in favour or against the event. Thus in summary, the matters indicated by the star lord are offered through the planet transiting or deposited on it as per birth chart and the sub lord is the final deciding factor for materialisation of the event. In this method it is often possible to exactly pinpoint the date and time of occurrence of the event in future with one hundred percent accuracy.

3. Natal Astrology

Data required: Correct Birth details i.e. date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W). Natal astrology deals with the computations and predictions based upon the birth details(date, time and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W) of birth) . The birth time is sometimes not correctly recorded which ultimately results in error in prediction. In K.P. system, we have ruling planet technique to correct the birth time, if past single occurrence events like date of marriage or childbirth etc. are known.

4. Horary Astrology

Data required: 1. One question on a particular topic. 2. A number (between 1 to 249), called horary number. 3. Date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W) of the querist. In K.P. system, there are 249 sub lords in the zodiac and the querist is requested to tell his question and a number, between 1 and 249,which comes to his mind while putting the question. In this Divine science of astrology, there is one to one correspondence between the R.P.s (ruling planets) of the time of asking the question and the time of materialisation of the event. There is one ascendant corresponding to each horary number and a chart can be drawn, if date, time, place and this number are known. This astrology is called horary astrology and is more accurate and suitable for individual questions on any one walk of life.

5. Horoscope Matching or Compatibility study

Data required: Correct Birth details i.e. date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W). We move with like-minded people and avoid those who do not conform to our state of mind. This matching is very much essential, particularly for marriage,so that the couple can enjoy a long and happy life.It can be done taking natal horoscopes of two persons and analysing them as per Vedic and K.P. systems.

A Note - When people are asking me for readings, on any issues, please include the data, and as many events with dates as possible, to predict the future! If you cannot fix the past, cannot see the future!

Hello. I enjoyed reading your article on KP Astrology. The only difficulty I have with accepting the KP method is its reliance on "Ruling Planets" (RP). Using RPs seems to arbitrary to me, especially for something so critically important as birth time rectification (especially when a couple of minutes time change can alter the Lagna).

I sincerely want to understand how the KP method works, since there seems to be no other reliable method of birth time rectification. Please provide an explanation of why, or how, the concept of ruling planets works, especially since the RPs selected by different people may be quite different for each person, because of differences in time and location for these different people studying the chart.

Thank you.
